my config:
system is V5R2M0
i dont have any system alias tables
SMTP : Autostart(YES)
Automatic registration(YES)
USRIDX: QSM
ADR: QSMRMTAD
System Name: TCPIP
Alias table type: *SYSTEM
Mailrouter: '172.24.134.5'
Firewall: YES
Journal: YES
Process .... MSF: NO
I added Directory Entry:
INTERNET SMTPRTE (manual taken from IBM support site)
Changed CHGDSTA to INTERNET SMTPRTE
I added myself to the Directory so I can send messages.
Yet SMTP wont send anything!
---
So I configured test machine (the same relase V5R2M0) from scratch with the
same config values and it works...
Messages are sent to the SMTP Relay....
Still main server wont send anything with the same config, any ideas where I
should look to fix this one ?
Thnx for reply,
F.

no effect...
I have read tons of how-to-SMTP manuals, every single article on IBM
regarding SMTP and nothing.
Everything is configured just fine, I even turned journal on and read
the log entries and it's fine.
Still SMTP wont send anything...
So
Any other ideas ?

& note any error messages. Our email from the as400goes wonky from time
to time. Mostly due to 'improvements' in the pc firewalls/spam
filters/virus checkers/ etc.

I found out that when I try SNDDST mail wont be delivered to the DIRE
"INTERNET SMTPRTE" for some reason... so its either SNADS or MSF or
SMTP :P or whatever else.
HELP !

Do you come all the way to the end of the communication, så that it
accepts a mail for delivery?

Then you do not need SNADS, QSMTPQ and all.
For warm/cold start information:
http://www-912.ibm.com/s_dir/slkbase.NSF/1ac66549a21402188625680b0002037e/70edb20ef13bb59c86256634005e9f20?OpenDocument&Highlight=0,smtp,context,addressing
SMTP server fails:

Good luck.

I may have QSMTPQ and all yet I turned that off :
Opt Queue Name Priority From To Force Send Current
Status
QSMTPQ Normal : - : : 1 0
Not-Rdy
QSMTPQ High : - : : 1 0
Not-Rdy
I use context...
Unfortunately after all reconfig (using IBM manuals from your links) my
SMTP doesnt work at all ....
Slowly I am getting this strange idea that this can't be just fixed...
Anyone HELP!

1. Download MAILTOOL from www.bvstools.com/mailtool.html.
2. Install it.
3. Apply the temp keys for both MAILTOOL and MAILTOOL Plus that come
with it. You should be applying 2 keys.
4. Use the MAILTOOL command to send an email. But, specify the following:
SENDWITH(*MAILTOOL)
MAILRTR(xx.xx.xx.xx)
USERTR(*ONLY)
DEBUG(*YES)
Replace "xx.xx.xx.xx" with your mail router address.
Once this is done, you will have a file named /tmp/mailtoolsmtp.txt.
Send this file to me (but send it to bvstone at bvstools dot com, not
the address used here) along with the command used, and the pertinant
job log.
When email just STOPS working, 99% of the time it's the mail router that
is the problem. Though IBM SMTP really leaves a lot to be desired, as
does SNDDST. :)

Coming a bit late to the thread, but occasionally we have SMTP "stop
working", the following code works for us (but it will delete all email
queued up)...
PGM
CRTDTAARA DTAARA(QUSRSYS/QTMSCLEAN) TYPE(*CHAR) LEN(1) VALUE('C')
AUT(*ALL)
ENDTCPSVR SERVER(*SMTP)
DLYJOB DLY(5)
ENDMSF
STRMSF MSGOPT(*CLEAR)
DLYJOB DLY(5)
STRTCPSVR SERVER(*SMTP)
DLYJOB DLY(5)
SNDDSTQ DSTQ(QSMTPQ) PTY(*NORMAL)
SNDDSTQ DSTQ(QSMTPQ) PTY(*HIGH)
ENDPGM

> Yup I can send messages via telnet with no problem
So you can telnet to the AS/400 box and handfeed it an email which is
then delivered correctly?

Re Up:
I'll try this MAILTOOL but it's not a solution because I have bunch of
applications written using SNDDST... too much fuss to rewrite all of
it.
Re Up Up:
I'll try this PGM code, but I can recall all of it and I am sure I
tried that at least 40 times.
Re Up Up Up:
I have log files from journal - nothing there :P
F.
I tried it:
> MAILTOOL TOADDR('te...@ryz-mail1.pl.hellmann.net') TONAME(Aaa)
FROMADDR('t
e...@pl.hellmann.net') SUBJECT(a) MESSAGE(a) SENDWITH(*MAILTOOL)
MAILRTR('
172.24.134.5') USERTR(*ONLY) DEBUG(*YES)
Error sending email.
No luck thu...
