Hi all

I currently need to allow one of our branch stores access to our AS/400.
This would have to be through a dial-up connection since we do not allow
ANY outside access through the internet. We do have a modem which is
used for periodic support only through Hyperterminal (or something along
these lines).

My question is: What is the best (fastest?) client side software to use?
I need full emulation (the same as we would have through CA Express over
our LAN). I have used CA myself over dial-up and have found it very
slow. What are my options?

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I might suggest either BosaNove Remote or if you've got an NT
server on your LAN, SNA Server. I just finished migrating a client
from BosaNova over to SNA Server to accomodate more dial in sessions.
Bos requires special client modems and is somewhat expensive. SNA
Server is available pretty cheap from different sources on the net and
allows standard modems. As for CA over dialup, my client is quite
happy using it with SNA Server and says the speed difference is barely
noticable.

If you have access to an ISDN phone line, the best way is using a lowcost
ISDN router. You can dial in from branch store with PC and ISDN card -
autentification can be made via CHAP and PPP protocol, dial back is no
problem. Client Access Express works fine.
