We just got a new iSeries 270 running V5R1M0. Though we have worked out
some of the bugs, the IFS has a different password than the one used to sign
on to the green screen. The password used is the default password when the
profile was first created, but now that the passwords has been changed, it
didn't change for the IFS signon. Shouldn't the IFS and OS/400 use the same
password? If not, where can I change the IFS password to match my OS/400
password?

Hi

If you are using the IFS (netserver) through Windows Explorer (netbeui) the
Windows password stored on your PC will be used.

No, I'm just using a mapped drive to a shared directory. Also, the IFS
password doesn't match the PC. The PC matches the OS/400.

Using a mapped drive means using the password cached by Windows.

On AS/400, the password is coupled with the user profile so there is not a
specific password for IFS and another for "green screen".

If you are using a password synchronization product that makes use of the
QSYSUPWD and QSYRUPWD APIs, the password used by AS/400 NetServer will not be
updated. The AS/400 NetServer password information is not stored or updated by
these APIs, and they should not be used on profiles that will be using AS/400
NetServer.

Another possibility is that the profile was restored using the RSTUSRPRF
command. Profiles that use AS/400 NetServer should be restored by specifying
the SECDTA(*PWDGRP) option or with USRPRF(*ALL).

To re-sync the passwords, try doing CHGUSRPRF on the problem profile specifying
the current password for the PASSWORD option. This should update the password
that AS/400 NetServer uses.
