I am a PC guy, and confused by all the different "File Systems" on our
AS/400. I am looking for information on using ftp to send a file from the PC
to the \QDLS file system (folder IPSAIMP).

When I start the default Win98 ftp client and attach to the AS/400, I can't
seem to find QDLS. How can I get there from here?

You need to specify NAMEFMT 1 before the PUT command. E.g. to copy FILE1.TXT
to the IPSAIMP folder:

NAMEFMT 1
PUT C:\FILE1.TXT /QDLS/IPSAIMP/FILE1.TXT

(See TCP/IP configuration & Reference manual).

By default when you log on to AS/400 FTP the system places you in NAMEFMT 0.
This mode only gives access the library and database file members. The other
file systems may only be accessed through NAMEFMT 1

There are several ways to switch to NAMEFMT 1

1. Execute the following command first before any other commands:
cd /qdls

This will tell the FTP server to implicitly issue the NAMEFMT 1 command. Note
the forward slash (AS/400 prefers forward slashes)

2. At any other time you can explicitly change mode by executing the command

quote site namefmt 1

3. Have your AS/400 guru write an FTP exit program that sets the NAMEFMT 1 when
you log on. (This feature is only available on V4R4+)
