Hi all!

Is it possible to "mass move" printouts from one outq to another? For
example if there are 300 printouts (in SAV or HLD mode) in one outq and you
have to empty that queue for some reason it would be nice to able to move
them all at once instead of move one printout at a time.

Regards

Stefan

You may find what you need in the CHGSPLFA command which allows bulk moving
of spool files to a new outq.

You can move splf's all at once, but you have to do it using WRKOUTQ
instead of WRKWTR.
Simply do WRKOUTQ(yourOUTQname) press enter.
Next place a "2" in front of every splf you want to move.
Next from the command line at the bottom of the display type
OUTQ(yourDestinationOUTQ) - press enter.
All splfs will be moved to the specified outq.

Stefan, You could use a remote writer configuration, but then it would require
you to set the files to RDY status and you may not want the files in
RDY status on the other output queue. The other bad thing about this is you
get a copy of the spooled file not the original.
Another method would be to use client access and highlight multiple entries
and drag to a different printer output queue.
Lastly, you could write a simple utility that uses the QUSLSPL or
QGYOLSPL API to get a list of the spooled files for the output queue and use
the QSPMOVSP API or CHGSPLFA CL command to move each individual spooled file
to the desired output queue. There may even be some old source around that
does this...thought it used to be part of the old QUSRTOOL set back in the
V2Rx days.

Try prompting on CHGSPLFA. You be able to select out the spool files
you want to move and change (among other things) either the printer or
outq for them.

Hi Stefan

CHGSPLFA FILE(*SELECT) lets you select on user, print device, form type and
user data for mass changes. If that doesn't do what you require, have a
look at my free MOVOUTQ utility at http://www.dbg400.net/movoutq.html which
adds some more flexiblity to moving spools around.

So I did the CHGF Attributes -
Works GREAT ! Thanks for the post.

User can now move invoices between OUTQ's and doesn't have to 2(change) all of them.

To avoid confusing anyone else [for lack of any context, other than
the Subject], the "CHGF Attributes" in the quoted text is an apparent
reference to the Change Spooled File Attributes (CHGSPLF) command,
alluded to [along with a "free MOVOUTQ utility" or writing something
similar using Spool APIs] in some followup posts to the OP, from 12Jul2002.
