I just took over system administration of an AS/400 model 320 dual
processor with 120+Gb of disk. It has never had a RCLSTG done on this
machine. I am going to perform a RCLSTG. How long is it going to take?
Is there a way I can calculate the approximate time it will take?

About 6 months ago, I was concerned if I had enough time to run a
RCLSTG so I called IBM software support. They told me there was no
way to estimate run time because it depended on file sizes, lengths,
keyed access paths, no. of files, amount of corruption, etc. They
also told me you could cancel it at any time (Sys Req 2) and it would
restart where you left off. Mine finished in about 2 hours, so I
never had to try a restart after a cancel. You might want to call
software support to verify this.

No, depends on too many factors.

But you may want to look into the forums at News400 and Midrange
Computing . I saw the very discussion going on there recently. You may
also want to search this newsgroup with Dejanews . Good luck!

I performed a RCLSTG on a machine with slightly less disk on a 4 way processor
a few months back. It was done in 3-4 hours (after never having been done in
2+ years)

It is very difficult to estimate a time for reclaim storage. I will tell you
this, I was faced with the same situation. We have a RISC 310 with about 90
GIG of storage an it took only about 30 minutes. FYI..There is a data area on
the system that tells you when it was last done and how long it took. But
since this is your first time..this won't help. I would just plan on running
it over a 3 day weekend..Just to be safe. The estimate has a lot to do with
how big your files are....how many logicals you have and how many disk crashes
or power failures you've had...if any....Hope this helps..Ron

We ran a RCLSTG on three different machines recently F35, F80 and 320, with
varying amounts of disk 20G to 120G. RCLSTG had never been run before and
all ran in less than an hour.
