IS Mgr: "We need a person that knows how to program in RPG and operate
the machine."
HR Person: (Jotting furiosly) "What's an RPG? What's programming? Give
me an idea what somebody does when they program.
IS Mgr: "Well, they have to use SEU to enter their programs" (jot,
write, jot, jot, jot). "Sometimes, they write a CL program in order to
call the RPG program." (Big fat jot). "Oh yes, and we have some S/36
stuff that we never converted. This programmer system
administrator/do-everything-in-the-world person's going to have to
deal with /36 OCL. (OCL---got it!!)
HR Person: (Struggling/writing..) "I got it sir. That's RPG and
operate the machine. Question. What does operate the machine mean?
IS Mgr: (A little impatiently...) "You know. I need somebody that can
IPL the machine (jotitty-jit-jot-jot). "You know stuff like that. Get
me somebody good and cheap too!"
HR Person: "Well, I'll post the job. But I won't mention how cheap we
are. Instead, I'll try to entice them with our great benefits
package." Meanwhile the HR person is thinking to him/her-self (they'll
probably need the medical benefits with the way our IS department
works people and pays them nothing).

A head hunter with knowledge of the jobs he "sells" seems to be an
extra-terrestrian that didn't find our small planet.
If it wasn't that sad, it would be great fun to talk to such head hunters.
So i think i tried as hard to explain some things to some of them as the
people did that ordered their service. Maybe they just compared their notes
to select persons!
As headhunters do not seem to read the threads they are creating, they miss
the whole fun stuff!

You are so right. I would never rely on (or allow) an HR person to compose
ads for my people.
It brings to mind a classic case in point from ComputerWorld years ago.
There were two quarter-page ads for the same company in which the top ad
was headed: "Programmer/Senior" and the second ad was headed:
"Programmer/Janitor". An honest to goodness maintenance coder methought!
