Currently, we have automated emailing of IFS files as attachments with
no problem.
However, due to users not detaching the attachments from the email or
deleting the emails, our email server has a lot of disk space be
dedicated to these attachments.
Management has asked if there would be a way to have a link within the
email that would give direct access to the IFS file rather than having
the file included as an attachment.
Is there anyone out there that has done this before or that is
currently doing this?
I can place a line of text that represents the link into the email,
however it can only be used by copying the text line into windows
explorer which in turn will display the IFS file. What I need is a
method that would treat this text line as a link so that when the user
clicks on the line the IFS file is displayed.
Thanks in advance for any help that can be given.
Make the email come out in an HTML format perhaps? Then include an
appropriate clickable link...

Have you considered configuring iSeries support for Network Neighborhood?
then the link would be of the form
\\hostname\sharename\path\to\file
Our WebDocs product can be used to publish a single copy of your reports to
a secure web server and then email links to the documents to your email
users.
Publishing reports instead of blasting them as email attachments can really
save on email server space.
