I now have a new problem. I start the install then I get the login screen. I
login as QSECOFR then my display resets to a blank screen.

What is wrong?

Help Me!!!

Do you have an SRC code on the panel at this time ?

It seems to me that this could appear if the QSECOFR OS400 user profile
is disabled.

May be you could try with DST to reset the password of QSECOFR OS400
profile.

DTS Profile is also locked up.

I guess I will have to scratch the system and restart everything over again.
Since I don't have the original lic. I will have to reinstall every 70 days.
Is this correct or is there a way to pull the lic numbers from DTS with the
11111111 profile.

BTW What is the lic. number look like. What is the format for them.
I might have them written down some ware from the previous owner.

The console will never disconnect because of a faulty login attempt.
also, a disabled QSECOFR can always log in at the console (but you do
need the password...)

Sam, what do you mean by "I start the install"? A logon screen should
mean you have the system up, minimally in DST.
If the console is twinax, is your cabling OK? Terminated twinax bus
etc.? If the twinax connection is unstable, you may get the screen up,
but as soon as data is flowing (after sign on) the link may drop. You
can tell by looking at the "System Available" indicator, normally in the
left bottom corner of the screen. No indicator = no link = blank screen.

Yep, B900 34B0 is a problem with too many signons. Take a look here:

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas1bfe83b26c9cd304686256c07004698e4&rs=110

You'll want to follow the link that says "Resetting QSECOFR Password
Using DST" unless you can't get into DST then it might be a re-install.

This is true if OS400 is running, but the problem of our friend appear
when it runs an OS400 IPL after waiting on DST mode and a manual IPL.

That link is unique to a particular visitor, and isn't accessible to
others. :( (Giveaway is the uid= and a nasty looking large 'number'.)

For V5R2, Resetting QSECOFR Password using DST can be found at:

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r2/ic2924/index.htm?info/rzamh/rzamhrecover.htm

Another related link, but slightly different:

After Installing the OS (2 hr) I am recving this on LCD display after
trying to login:

B90034B0

The screen never asks me for the QSECOFR password change.

Also it only used the first 2 disks. What are the rest for that I don't
load.

DTS Profile is also locked up.

No it's not. I wanted to post the same link but found that Jonas already
had. Click on it and you've got the IBM page.

Ahh, I see... somehow, the last few characters got truncated when I
first tried it, so the URL didn't work for me the first time. Works now.

Thanks Marc, yes, with DST that's correct.
Looks like our friend is out of options, and a scratch + reload is
unavoidable.
There must be a way to forfeit security through the front panel, like
you could on the S/36, but if there is, it's undocumented, or very well
hidden. I only found such a trick for SST device passwords...

Ok How do I start from scratch and reload everything?

This will be a OK thing to do since it is not a production server. (Only
for me to learn OS/400 and Programing on.)

If I remember well (I did not read all the threads you initiated), the
version is V5R1.

First, check the Backup and Recovery Guide here :
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r1/ic2924/books/c4153045.pdf

Basically, you run a Manual D IPL on the media containing the
microcode. You will have the choice to install the licensed internal
code. The next menu asks you for the way to reinstall the microcode. To
perform a full scratch install, select option 2 and the load source
will be formatted and all the other disks will become Unconfigured.
Chapter 5 of the guide.

Once the microcode is installed, the system performs a B IPL. Choose
the option to install the Operating system.
Chapter 6 of the guide.

After that, the way to recover depends of the content of your media.

If it contains something like a full save of another system, you should
use the GO RESTORE option 21.

It it is an IBM distribution CD, you should use the GO LICPGM option 1.

Hope it helps.
