Thanks,

ASCII -> EBCDIC use the QEBCDIC table
EBCDIC -> ASCII use the QASCII table
to traslate lower case to upper case use QSYTRNTBL(sp?)
You can also use them in DDS for database files to specify an alternate
collating sequence ie. an alternate ordering of characters. (See recent issue
of News/400 for an interesting application of this for Y2K).
Use the CRTTBL, WRKTBL, DLTTBL commands. Translate tables can be created from
source records, or from an interactive panel.

They can be used to replace characters by other characters.
for example to convert lowercase to uppercase
or if you want to replace all vocals by blanks ...
*TBL are created by Selection of "14" in PDM or CRTTBL (?)
Check GO CMDTBL for further commands
*TBL are used by a API-Programm named QDCXLATE.
>Examples ?
AFAIK there are some examples in a CL-book (but I don't remember which one)
In the API-Reference there is a description of the Parameters

Attractive isn't it.

but there's now another question :
I need a table to convert a file from a unkown system, located on a PC,
which have some garbage-characters above ASCII-Code 128,
The example is only 8 lines with 16 hex-chars = 128 characters.
Are more table-entries allowed ?
CRTTBL TBL(MYLIB/MYTABLE) SRCFILE(*PROMPT)
you can optionally specify BASETBL(xxxxx) if you want your new table to be
based an an existing table (ie. QASCII, QEBCDIC, etc...)
