Hi

My 170 runs V4R5, latest PTFs.

I have problems printing to non IPDS printers and sending spoolfiles:

If I try to print to network (HPT) printers, they end with message
MCH3402 in joblog (Module WPPJLDR, procedure: Retrieve_Splf_Attr,
statement: 11, message: Tried to refer to all or part of an object
that no longer exists.)

On sending the spoolfile by SNDNETSPLF I get the same
Message . . . . : Function check. MCH3402 unmonitored by QNFPACK at
statement *N, instruction X'02BB'.

Already tried RCLSTG, googled around, but didn t find any hints.

Hi,

I think it is a timing problem...check your connectionsettings in the
printer configuration. It seems as it looses connection while waiting for
the whole inputstream.

Hi René

Thanks for your answer.
The problem is also when trying to send a spoolfile with SNDNETSPLF,
so I think the problem must be somewhere before the printing itself. I
can delete the spoolfiles without problem. So I think it s not a
problem with the spoolfiles neither. Changing the outq of the
spoolfile is also possible.

Daniel,

try rclmsplstg and rclmstg, maybe there's something left in space what
generates the error.

The rclmsplstg reclaimes unused spoolspace after deleting spoolfiles.
You can check the effect of rclmsplstg by running a rtvdskinf and than
prtdskinf the generated spoolfile show the gain you get by rclmstg.

Also clrlib QRCL an QRPLOBJ

Hi Rene

Again thanks for your help. I already did the RCLSTG multiple times.
RCLSPLSTG run every evening as we are sometimes very short on
diskspace.
I checked the QRCL and QRPLOBJ Libs they are both empty.

I can change the spoolfile from one queue to another using CHGSPLFA.
If I change it to the IPDS printer it prints without problems.

I also deleted and recreated the printer and outq descriptions. No
difference.

Receiving spoolfiles sent by SNA from another system works fine. Only
sending from this system to another or even to another local user
hurts...

Last chance I will reload the OS. But I am not keen on that at all.

Attempt #3...different news server...

Daniel, This is an attempt to post again...aparrently all my posts since
about July 13th have not made it outside of some internal server....the
following is a post I made Aug 9th.

> The two errors listed below would appear to be attempts at using API
QUSRSPLA. Check to see if program QSYS/QUSRSPLA exists and is not damaged.
>
> If it exists and is not damaged, then there may be a damaged system
entry point table. The problem should be fixable by installing the
latest PTF for QUSRSPLA (if you already do not have it installed...if it
is installed, remove the PTF permanent and reload and reapply).

If you are short on diskspace, and above the % asp level the network
functions are stopped automatically by OS400.
Check your ASP % in SST.

Hi Rene

I am only at some 89-92% ASP and lifted the threshold already (to
94%). So this should not be the problem. Also IPDS printing and NETF
sending works fine so far. Thanks anyway!

Daniel, The error you are getting indicates something is destroyed and
damaged. Since this is occurring on a call to the API QUSRSPLA, that
usually means the program being called is damaged. Typically when the
program being called is replaced the problem gets fixed. Something in
the process of invoking the program is finding damage on an object.

A low level trace may be required to see what is going on...not sure a
STRTRC will capture what is needed to figure it out.

The easiest (or I should say simplest/cheaper) way that may resolve this
problem would be to reslip the OS and reinstall all PTFs. I reallize
this isn't a trivial task, but in these types of problems, it seems to
be the only way to clear them up. Otherwise, a lot of consult time
would pile up if you went through IBM service because V4R5 is out of
service....and you still might end up doing the reslip.

Hi Daniel,

Here is another possible interpretation for the messages you are
receiving. I saw in the thread of postings that you are running your
system with limited disk space.

When using the OS/400 Host Print Transform option to convert spool
files into a format compatible with LAN attached ASCII printers, the
amount of system memory consumed during the transformation process is
significant. If your system is unable to provide a suitable temporary
workspace for converting the spool files, the message could mean that
the spool file transformation process actually failed and there is no
transformed file to send to the target printer.

If possible, try allocating some more memory to the *SPOOL process.
This change could allow the transformation process to occur with less
requirement for temporary workspace. I'm not sure how OS/400 manages
calls to temporary workspace. It is possible it uses the hard disk for
this function, which might be difficult for your system to allocate
given the limited amount of free space you have at this moment.

Rodney knows more about how the OS/400 spool uses temporary workspace
so he might be able to comment further on this aspect of how Host
Print Transform works.

HTH

Hi Paul

Thanks for your answer
The system is at 93%, 17GB disk. I raised the spool memory pool but it
didn t help. Our system swaps between 88% and 93% during the week
depending on our developers. I don t think this should be the reason.

Is SNDNETF also using the HPT to prepare (decode) the spoolfiles for
the use on the target system?

have a nice day.

I ll do so this or next weekend. I already reordered the "current" ptf

It ll be fun..
