Check the cabling and make sure that the terminal is attached to port 0
and that the address switches on the terminal are all off (address 0). If
wired and set correctly,

Check the Front panel and see if the Processor attention light is on. If
it is, set the switch to manual IPL and hit the load button.

If it still will not come up after about 1 hour, check the panel again.
And get out the operators guide and problem determination books. It will
be hard to find a CE that can work on a system 36.

you do not have a crt at port 0 address 0 to see the ipl sign on screen. what
you are looking at is a standard workstation and not the system console that
you need to be at to wake the box up.

On the IBM System 36, the console must be signed onto before other screens
become active. The reason for this is that the IPL requires the console
operator to enter the time and date. To accomplish this ensure you have a
terminal connected to port 0, and address 0 prior to IPLing the System.

Stuart,

In the old days we did somtimes do a quick startup on our 5360. You must
key
on the controle panel, on the system, FF00 puss the load button. It will
pass all
the hardware checks. But your machine will come up in a few seconds.
On the same controle panel is a led burning red when the console is not
found.
First your cursor is on th eright and after the machine detected it cursor
left.
After the your signon screen will appear.
Their can be a device defined as the alternative console.
Further i agree with Glenn and Jim.
And hi its good to talk with the oldies ;-))

René

Hi,

If it is waiting saying IPL in Progress you probably connected your display
station on to the wrong port. Use address 0 on port 0 (doubble zero) You
will se the IPL Signon screen to enter date and time.
