Hello,

I am looking to invoke a .exe program that resides on the AS/400 in the
Integrated File system.
I would like a RPGILE program (or CLE) program to somehow execute the
program and monitor the results.

Dose anyone know of any API's that can do this?

Thanks,
Steve

Hello Steve

I suppose you are talking about PC programs .

I don't think it is possible.
OS/400 can only run OS/400 programs (eg *PGM objects of the QSYS.LIB
file system).

You can try to use a connected PC which has a drive mapped on the IFS
and run the RUNRMTCMD on this PC for this program. You need a REXEC
daemon on this PC (Client Access has one).

Oh, I forget the new PASE possibilities (but in this case, the programs
are AIX ones) and the QShell utilities (perhaps, it is possible here).

You can invoke a .exe program on a Windows system with an Rexec daemon.
A really good one is available from Denicomp (http://www.denicomp.com).
If the program resides on the AS/400 IFS directory you would need to
have a drive mapped on the Windows side.

Steve- If you're running Client Access, you can run command STRPCCMD (run
STRPCO first), and specify your .exe file as the PC command to execute, in
the form /your ifs folder/your exe program.exe. I've used this method to
run Windows Scripting Host (wscript.exe) from the AS/400 - keeps it off the
PC and out of reach of viruses such as the ILOVEYOU virus. Hope this
elps. -Jim

Hello Steve,

Our FTP/400 Remote Command Server product allows you to run an .EXE on any
PC and you can actually have it wait until the PC program completes before
the AS/400 job continues.

For more info take a look at our web site or contact me via email.
