Hi all,

We use the Forms Magic software to create our overlays on the AS400.

We tried to print to a HP3015 and HP have confirmed that form overlay
processing is not supported on this printer, but couldn't provide us
with a list of black and white laserjets that do support it. We have
it working on lots of older model printers.

Eventually, after speaking to five or six HP people, they suggested
getting a 3rd part DIMM.

Does anyone know of any current HP black and white network duplex
printers rated at about 25-40ppm/10K monthly cycle that support form
overlays?

Also, does anyone know of a 3rd party dimm supplier?

Thanks, in advance.

Neil

PS I am in the UK.

I believe you need one that has PCL. We use laserjet 4300 and 4350's

Unfortunately, the 4300/4350 are not current models.

Thanks,

I'm not sure but I think that Forms Magic create overlays with GCOCA
elements, that's are not supported by host print transform. If I'm right
you need IPDS printers and PSF installed.

I use FormSprint for this type of thing, which I believe is similar in
nature to what Forms Magic does. I've had requests for duplex printing
and I have successfully set it up, so I have to ask...do you have
access to a network connected copy machine? If so...most of them
support PCL, and at least with FormsSprint, I have been able to do
overlay and duplex printing to a copy machine without a problem. A
copy machine is probably going to run circles around your average HP
laser printer, provided you have access to one. If you can go this
route I don't think you'll need an expansion DIMM.

Good luck with it.

Hi,

We have a Windows based solution that will support virtually ALL
printers connected to almost any systems including AS/400, Linux,
Unix, Windows and many more. It will drive multiple printers and does
NOT require any Dimms for any support. It supports more than 30
barcodes and will provide PDF archive copies as well as the print
copies your are asking about. Check it out at www.octotools.com.
look at the powerpoint for samples. BTW, there is no dependence on
IPDS.

I am pleased to say that HP were wrong and form overlay printing does
work on the HP3015 laser.

I had set something up incorrectly.

Thanks,

Maybe it's time to upgrade to a newer forms package.

Our iForms software is native iSeries based and can create form overlays or
data driven documents.

Check out our web site for more info.
