Hello everyone.

We're looking for an automated solution to give us reports listing
which files are read in our queries.

I have found a shareware product on the news400.com site to
provide this reporting. I was wondering if anyone knows of a product
which is sold commercially which does this reporting?

- I'm thinking I'd prefer to use software which is sold and
therefore supported by a software vendor.

e.g. The software will get upgraded by the vendor when a new
release of the AS400 operating system is produced by IBM.

Thank you,
Glen Lee, Cooperators Life Insurance,

I think that is Gary Guthrie's tool; he's just today posted here with an
updated version. Assuming you just want to retrieve the file
information, IMO you will probably be fine just using that; and save the
money. Of course note the security level caveat. Other than that IBM
provides RTVQMQRY ALWQRYDFN(*ONLY) to retrieve the information; neither
fast nor outfile-like...

My response was solely w/ respect to the question below <which did not
inquire about the files being written to, only those read>. I did not
infer anything from the 'Subject:' beyond that question. As such my
response did not address output files, of which you have not missed
anything; RTVQMQRY indeed does not extract/inform the output file
information from a *QRYDFN.

However note that RTVQMQRY returns expressions, fields, and ordering;
for inquiries w/ respect to <eg.> Y2K, this may be much more useful for
some.

Are you saying that RTVQMQRY can retrieve Query/400 *OUTFILE info? Have I
missed something in there?

It may not be fully automated, but you can easily make a utility around
the command RTVQMQRY. What it does is that it puts the SELECT statement
of a query in a source file (of your choice). This can be scanned and put
in a database file easily.

Charles:

You're as precisely correct as usual. I was reading into the post something
that wasn't there, probably because of the subject (which you picked up on).

And as long as I have your attention, I'll add that I think you're one of the
more valuable assets of this NG. I tend to read your posts even in threads I
have no other interest in. Thank you for your efforts.
