When I call a CL program using SBMJOB I do not get any output to say
whether the job ran successfully or not. As a couple of jobs are now
not running properly I cannot find out why they failed.
Should a log be produced showing this info - if so how can I get the
information?

Regards.

Steve.

This depends on how the program is coded to handle errors, and the
severity of the failing condition's message as compared to the 'end
severity' for the job; compared value for determining if a spooled
joblog should be produced regardless of current logging level. You can
force the job logging by specifying LOG(4 0 *SECLVL) on the SBMJOB
command.

If that is not helpful, then use HOLD(*YES) and issue STRSRVJOB on the
job named in the message produced by the SBMJOB request. Then request
STRDBG <maybe you need UPDPROD(*YES); see the help text> on the CL
program that will run. Next issue RLSJOB on that same job, at the
screen presented press F10 and issue any ADDBKP or other debug commands
<eg. ADDTRC or TRCJOB>.

Steve:

SBMJOB has a LOG() parameter that might help you. Normally, the default
parameter value refers to whatever is set for the LOG() attribute of the job
description, which might not be sufficient for what you want.

But it all depends on what you mean by "...they failed." How do you know they
failed? Do you mean that they merely did not do what you expected? Perhaps
what you need is to debug the programs. Logging might not be sufficient.

And if it is sufficient, have you been shown how to _FIND_ the logs that might
already be created?

When you SBMJOB page down until you find Message Loggin. Below this you
will find the following and you need to set them to:-

LEVEL 0
SEVERITY 99
TEXT *SECLVL
CL PROGRAM COMMAND *YES

This should cure your problem without any joblogs.
