Set up has been done as per the fastpath set-up document but when testing
VFYTCPCNN to another device on the network a message is received
"No response from host within 1 seconds for connection verification 1"
through verification 5
VFYTCPCNN works fine when testing either LOOPBACK or the actual address of
the local machine.
PING works OK just the same to the local machine but timeout to other
servers on the network.
I am definitely entering the correct TCP/IP address for the other server and
subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
(interesting though - the TCP/IP of the LOOPBACK is 127.0.0.1 subnet
255.0.0.0 is this correct?)
Also the Hub displays activity when the tests are being run
TIA
Peter

WRKCFGSTS *LIN ETHLIN reveals the line is active and there is a controller &
a device underneath - all of which are active
Thanks for prompt response - Any other ideas?

It's a small private network not connected to the internet
What is the IP adres of your AS400 10.0.0.4
and what is the IP adres of the "host to ping" 10.0.0.2
Is TCP/IP not only started but also started specific for your

WRKCFGSTS *LIN ETHLIN reveals the line is active and there is a controller &
a device underneath - all of which are active
Also of course I can see the activity on the hub when the ping is running so
I beleive the ethernet aspects are OK
Thanks for prompt response - Any other ideas?

Well, if everything is active, then is the Ip address your trying to
ping a valid one? Why do you just ping your default gateway and see
what happens? That's if your network is on the Internet and you have a
router or firewall to the Internet. If the network is on the Internet,
make sure you add your default gateway on the AS/400..
Can you ping the AS/400's IP? If you can't ping the 400, check your host
table and make sure it's in there...
And if you still can't ping anything, then your probably ruining under
the wrong SubNetMask..
If you want to run a Class C SubNet Mask then run a Class C IP address
also. The AS/400 shouldn't have let you create a non-standard IP
address scheme anyway. So, I'm not sure how you where able to create it
in the first place...
Also, just for testing. Did you go to a workstation and see if you can
ping the 400?
Take a look at the micro transceiver on the AS/400 NIC card and make
sure the link is active. Also, if you did a power reset on your
hub/switch the 400 doesn't like that and crashes the network interface
on the AS/400. You'll have to re-IPL. You might also want to check
your cabling to and make sure the 400 is even connected to the network.
Double then triple check everything!

You should see a QTCP job under the device as well. Are you sure your
interface is active?
WRKTCPSTS (aka NETSTAT), look at option 1 (interface should be active)
and 2 (routes should be available).

Probably AS/400 network adapter is connected to HUB not SWITCH.
