We run the native AS/400 job scheduler (NOT the Advanced one) and I
want to know how to end it and start it back up. I am trying to
restrict the system as much as possible for backups and our plan is to
not run the job scheduler while backups are running and then start it
up again and have anything that was suposed to run get submitted at
that time (I know they need to be setup as *SBMRLS). I know there are
many other ways to restrict the system, but can anyone tell me if I
can shut the job scheduler down and start it back up again later?
Thanks very much in advance.

Jeff Wilson racontait dans comp.sys.ibm.as400.misc:

I believe that this scheduler can only be stopped with the ENDSBS *ALL
command (eg moving to restricted state). And the only way to restart it
is to start the controlling subsystem (eg leaving the restricted
state).

Merci beaucoup. I had a feeling that was the case and wanted a
confirmation. Au revoir!

Our method is to hold the jobqs until backup completes and then release them
again.

Jeff,

Create a break controlling program to handle save commands.
Attach it to your console (DSP01)
add a job in the scheduler to send a command message to the console.

The command message would be a cl-program which ends all sbs to restricted
state and starts a fullbackup, then a restart of sbs or pwrdwsys
restart(*yes).

This way you don't have to wait on side during backup time ;-)))
