Hi,

When I'm in wrksplf, and viewing a file using option 5, the file is
displayed without any blank lines. However, when that same
file is printed, the blank lines are there.

I'd like to view the file on screen exactly as it will print. Is this
a possiblilty? Or at least have the option to do so. I even used
cpysplf to copy the spool file to a file, transferred it to my PC,
but, no blank lines. Hmmph.

Thanks
Julien

Create a physical file with record length one byte longer than the width
of the spoolfile.
Specify *FCFC on the forms control parm of the cpysplf command.

Write a program that "skip & space" according to the content of the
forms control character and display the spool file in a subfile, or
write a small PC program to do the same.

On the PC you can drag and drop the printed output from the "Operations
Navigator" V3R2, or
if you run a previous version you have only the chance to view the
output with the CA/400 spool viewer.
Another way could be configuring a printer session of PC5250 and
choosing the null driver (as windows text-only printer) without any
transform, on a FILE printer port, when the spool come on the PC you'll
be prompted to give a file name. On the AS/400 side you have to change
the spooled file to newly autocreated output queue.

Well, if you have access to an old OS/400 distribution tape, one from the
time when Jim Sloan still worked for IBM, you could go to QUSRTOOL and
retrieve a part of PRTSEUTXT (I forget the name of the supporting part)
which displays a spool entry with spacing as it would be printed.

For what its worth, I usually find the vertically compressed view useful:
the extra non-blank lines which this view can show reduce wear and tear on
my (aging) memory and on the roll keys.

The AS400SpooledFileViewer object in the AS/400 Java Toolkit
shows a WYSYWIG view of a spooled file. I have written a tabbed
notebook using this viewer. You can run it on your PC and connect
to your TCP/IP-enabled AS/400 if you have JT400 or download the
JTOpen version of the Toolkit from IBM
(http://oss.software.ibm.com/developerworks/opensource/jt400/)

My QCDemo tabbed notebook with the spooled file viewer is
