V5R4M0 to V5R4M5

Hi helpful AS400/iSeries/I5/i community,

Can someone tell me which CD's are necessary for the V5R4M0 to V5R4M5
upgrade ?

I am trying to minimize some travel time by doing the OS upgrade
remotely but dont want to copy all the CD's to an image catalog if I
can get away with 1 or 2 cd's.

As far as I know it was a lic upgrade only, just 1 cd the I_BASE_01
one I believe.

If you are trying to prep for migrating to a new system then you will
need to install the I_BASE, B2924_01 and B2924_02 ( assuming you bare
using U/L English )

Really only the LIC will be at V5R4M0, but IBM only supports the
migration/upgrade if you have the correct resave/respin on those CDs.
They do not support getting there by PTFs.

If you are looking at Raid5 with Hot Spare or other V5R4M5 featue, then
you will only need the I_BASE.

In Both case you will want to apply the latest CUME PTFs afterwords

Yes I am prepping for a HW upgrade where M5 is the prereq. I just dont
want to create an image catalog and find I am missing a CD !

I guess I 'll go with base, b1 and b2 and see how it goes.

I done several of these. There is a section ( Chapter 6 ) in the OS
Install Upgrade manual that guide you through this

FULL SYSTEM SAVE or at least a SaveSys
Restore
Install the B2924_1 and B2924_2
PTFs
At least a SaveSYS
All done

What hardware upgrade? I just went through that. Had to put V5R4M5 on
in order to upgrade from a 9406-570 to a 9406-MMA. Actually had to do
it twice, once on DR server and once on main production server. DR was
easier, because it was already at V5R4; the prod server was at V5R3.
