Afternoon all,

I'm trying to login into my V5R4 iSeries using Ubuntu SSH client,
works fine with user name and password but can not get it to work with
certificate. I've added the my client public key to the
authorized_key file and debug of login seems to show it being
recognised and accepted but it still requests password

Can anyone advise please, debug below

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ ssh -v -n -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no

Define Ubuntu SSH client, does it work with PUTTY.

Should read authorized_keys in ~/.ssh directory on the iSeries.

From log, OpenSSH client packaged by Ubuntu

Hi,

Did you check that:
https://www-304.ibm.com/partnerworld/wps/servlet/ContentHandler/pw_com_porting_tools_openssh

you can read this:
<<
you use public-key authentication to connect, verify the permissions on
the userid's directories and files

The userid's home directory must not have public write authority (
chmod go-w /home/myuserid )
The userid's /home/myuserid/.ssh directory and
/home/myuserid/.ssh/authorized_keys file must not have any public
authorities ( chmod go-rwx /home/userid/.ssh and chmod go-rwx
/home/myuserid/.ssh/authorized_keys )
>>

if the user home is writable, the public key authentication is disabled...

Regards,

Ben
