Hi,

When my HP 50g's batteries are low, the transmitting icon
appears. Why?

Thanks.

I very much doubt this.
The transmitting icon on the HP 50g is an arrow pointing right.

I suspect that what you are seeing is the low battery indicator which,
surprisingly, comes up when either the AAA batteries or the coin cell
is low.
Note that this icon is also used for alarms.

Consult your HP manual for the meaning of the icons on top of the
screen.

Andreas

You're right. Sorry. Well, it is not really meaningfull... having a
dot put between parentheses such as

((.)) does not look a lot like `hey, battery is low.' Well, it looks
like an alarm, and as a low battery might be interpreted as an alarm, ...

Don't count your chickens before they're hatched.

Hello,

usually the low bat warning should come up when you turn the machine
on, IIRC the low bat icon might appear a little bit before the warning
first shows up.

If you use my MLP you can activate a little icon showing the
approximate status of the battery as shown here
HP 50G Multi Lingual Pack - Deutsch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBEs6ReIJOE
(As ARM code running in EMU48 does not work the battery icon changes
in the emulation once in a while.)

And just as a reminder, the MLP is available in English, German,
Italian, Spanish and French and contains

- Language Pack
- TreeBrowser / Formula Browser
- TreeBrowserBuilder / Formula Builder
- GUISLV /GUIMES
- Data set of the Equation Library (over 300 equations in the same
language as the Language Pack)
- Data set of the most common formulas of economics (over 140
equations in the same language as the Language Pack)
- Extensive documentation, totaling more than 50 pages for each
language in PDF format

Creating additional needed datasets can easily be done, either on the
calculator or in debug4x.

Andreas

This highlights again the poor state of current manuals. Nowhere is
the low battery icon printed in any manual. Where is the usual screen
shot displaying all the annunciators? Not in the 50G Manual, Guide,
AUR or QSG.

No it doesn't come on for the coin cell!!
That is why I replace the coin cell in mine every 3 years (even though
the manual recommends 5 years).
