Blast! Another one who found the secret code to expand the RAM
_and_ increase the IR distance! Apart from that and displaying the
names of the team that created this great machine, it doesn't
do much.
Please don't spread the word!

Well, that's not completely true: it shows a screen with names that
have had something to do with the G-series development.

The FAQ says that it is a signature of the creators.. nothing useful :)

Hello, Matt.
Others have responded to this question already, so this is just added
info.
The Reserved Word RULES was originally set aside as a command to set
parameters for Equation Writer, the environment you invoke when you
press left-shift ENTER (GX). As EqWriter neared completion, it became
clear that RULES would not be needed. Apparently there are some details
of low-level coding, which I never learned, which make it undesirable to
delete Reservd Words late in the code process, so RULES was simply
disabled. I believe it returns an "Invalid Arguments' error on a Rev J
S or SX.
Near the end of the GX project, Diana Byrne remembered her old keyword
and apparently considered removing it. She surprised all of us on the
design team when she announced she had created an Easter Egg instead.
Basically, this bit of fluff uses and already-defined deactivated
Reserved Word and a small bit of ROM space which had low utility value,
due to its location in the address map.
I think the FAQ gives more details, but the folks shown are:

The odd name is Alcuin, the project code name for the G.
Good Day!
Dave.
Are there any others I can try? I'd love to find one that tells me how
much memory the calculator has left.
That's no Easter Egg, but just a normal command, that's documented in
the AUR and I think the manual too. If it's the same on the 38G (why
wouldn't it be?) it's MEM. This gives the number of bytes of free user
memory.

Sadly MEM, MEMORY, SPACE, LEFT, RESOURCES and just about every other
synonym I can think of don't work, aarrgghhhh!
I am jealous of you owners of the 48, I would have bought one but it
costs NZ$700. Anyway I love the 38G it has been a huge help with any
maths tutoring I do.

NZ$700?? The most i've seen at 48gx for was NZ$600, and that was at
Whitcoulls. You should be able to import one from the USA for around
NZ$350 (at least i did).
Later...
