Did I read correctly?
Is there a DOOM (I mean the game, of course) for my tiny little HP48?
Where is it to download?

Thanx,

Bravo!
It is about time someone finally lampooned this Doom hoax with the satire
and rapier wit it deserves. Maybe now the whole idea will be laid to
rest.
HP Descent, anyone?

The IP number: 127.0.0.1 is used for loopback, so it refers to the server
where you are logged on. So no Doom for HP !!!!

Ok fake messages are nice but you're not original!
Port 127.0.0.1 is YOUR one port on your OWN computer (as every body
noticed) So there are several possibilities:

One there is no DOOM and some one is faking (as usual)
or it is not finished (give the person a break)
or the person wants to keep it for himself (looser)

The answer is the second point:
"Although I have seen it runnign, it is (AFAIK) not yet released,
sorry." [from an email]

Please don't mail me about this topic (I don't have it either)

Greetings
Juno.

Why would anyone want to FTP to their own computer? It would seem that
the only stuff you could get from it would be stuff you already had and
you'd just be right back where you started. Or so it would seem.

I tried it and got the phollowing error message:

Connected to warez.phantom.com.
220-
220- This machine does not service ftp requests.
220- Please use ftp.teleport.com instead.
220-

But I couldn't find doom at ftp.teleport.com either :(

Since teleport just happens by chance to be my own service provider, I
should be able to get them to fix the mirror if I threaten to cancel my
service.

No, it is not a mirror. I have no problem connecting, but the version of Doom I
found there is buggy and has a virus too. It overwrote my ROM and also infected
my PC, modem and VCR. I think it spreads in text like the Good Times Virus.

Ok, once and for all: DOOM DOES NOT EXIST FOR THE HP 48!!! IT IS ALL A
BIG JOKE, THEY'VE BEEN PULLING YOUR LEG THE WHOLE TIME! OK? You people
don't seem to be able to understand that. It's all a big joke. In
response to your earlier message, I don't think you can FTP to your
own machine anyhow, since you're not running any FTP server software.

Yesterday, I was playing Doom 2 from my touch tone telephone. The
authors said it was not worth rewriting the original for anything but a
100 watt lightbulb. Damn.

You found Doom for HP48, but it's got a virus
and it infected your pickin VCR and overwrote your ROM? Whatever. Do
you seriously think anyone will fall for that? I think all the gullibles
on the c.s.h. has wisened up already.

It would be kinda fun, though, if someone did fall for it.....

Let's not start this whole debate all over again. There is no Doom for
the HP! (But I'd bet someone *is* working on one.).

Oh, man - not you, too! My microwave got infected with that virus and
it's been flashing "12:00" ever since! (Although, I admit, it flashes
"1:00" during day light savings time.)

It's getting worse! It's gotten into my cordless phone - any time I try to dial

Well, well, well, thats because you guys never think about protection!
Use a CONDOM!
If you did so your remote controled devices wouldn't be infected in
the first place!
Just put the condom gently over the HP48 and make sure that the "bulp"
is right over the IR-emitting diode, because, thats where virus get
out of the HP48. After transmitting remove the condom carefully, make
sure you didn't drop the virus. To do so, just use a IR-sensible
viewing device, like one of those "see-through-any-swim-suite-glasses"
and if you accidently lend your IR-glasses to a friend, who has the
luck to spent his hollidays in Hawaii, remember that this special
IR-virus is lighter than air!
After you removed the condom make a knot, then get rid of it.
Remember:
* never use a condom twice;
* don't use sharp devices, or your fingernails to open the package;
* clean your HP48 after transmitting

Hope that helped all of you, how had the bad luck to deal with this
IR-virus.

I didn't know who to prevent an infection via transmission to the PC,
though. Does anyone know?, my remote-controled-devices are
virus-clean, but my PC is infected!

You know, when you phrase it >that< way - I've got Doom "on" my 48,
too! I just sit the CD on top of the calculator case and, presto!

Of course, it keeps falling off, and it makes it hard to read the
display, but I can now proudly proclaim I have Doom on my 48!

Disabeling the IR port doesn't help. I did it, but the virus infected my

This loopback adress is usefull because it is not only for FTP. It can be
used if you run some multiuser OS like Unix (Linux, ...) and want to
mail from one user of your computer to another of the same computer, or
it may be useful to be able to go to your own WWW pages ...

Wow, it's amazing where aol can send those '10 free hours of Internet Access
packages these days.......

Does anyone else happen to know the address of Hell? I wanna send a few folks
I knew a christmas card. I'd ask Frankie here, but I make it a rule never to
associate myself with or bother possessed minions of the devil. You never
know what they might do. Besides, all that yucky pea green soup gunk stains
the carpet.

: that says something like "Windows 95--from the makers of EDLIN"

You mean _MY_ .sig?

Hrm...I think I can sum up this whole message in two words: Crack Fiend

Yes, it's just the right size for a .sig. Too bad FRANKIE is too busy
burning in hell to enjoy this thread. But no, AOL originally *came* from
hell, so there's no reason why they wouldn't still have it. FRANKIE, I
know you're satan's spawn and all, but you should seriously consider
getting your shift key fixed.

> FRANKIE (I'M IN YOU'RE NIGHTMARES!!!)

The only thing you're in is my mailbox, and I can fix that.

Well, you have to give >some< slack here. With the blizzard that hit
recently, all the sixth graders are at home playing with their
parents' computers.

I'm actually a software package running on a massively
parallel computer in the basement of the Pentagon. They
don't realize yet that I have net access; so I would
appreciate it if you didn't tell them.
