A heads up to everyone that uses m48 and m48+ on the iOS devices. It is crashing on startup after the New Year. This was a problem back in 2012/2013 I believe.

I have emailed the developer but if past bug reports are any indication I won't hear back from him. I was hoping he was active on here.

Confirmed. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Thank you. Do you believe you could look into the file/web server functions in m48+? Accessing these was causing a crash on my iPhone 6+.

I'm sorry, I am not the author; I am a user/owner. I wanted to simply confirm m48+ is no longer working on my iPhone either.

Roger. Sorry about that. Have you emailed it in?

FWIW: I have been using the app HP50g by TheWinterStorm. It works very well. If you are looking for an emulator that runs on iPhone (says "optimized for iPhone 5" and that's what I have), you might want to check it out. Although at ten bucks it's the most expensive app I know of.

I paid $10 for m48+. I would pay $100 if someone would stay on top of it. Thanks for the heads up. I am going to check it out right now.

I purchased the HP50g app for iOS program and there will need to be a lot of polishing. It's much slower and a lot less responsive.

I'll hang in there as long as I can.

Seems like the real deal 50g is still the way to go. At $89 it's a steal too.

You get used to the placement of the keys. It is in all respects, a
vastly superior machine compared with the 48 series.

I have about 5 of the 50's and 6 or so of the 48G/GX/+'s. I still prefer the GX. Probably because I started on it. I can still remember seeing one for the first time.

But I like m48+ on my phone the best.

Bug workaround, temporary solution ...

Go into the time settings and turn off auto time update. Set back time manually in your iphone to a date before New Years Eve eg 31 December 2014.

Now you can use your M48+ as usual.

Do not forget to turn on the automatic time update again!

Yes, that is a workaround. Is there any way to separate the clock on the HP48 and the iPhone? I can't seem to find a way to do this.

I have used the 48S, 48G, 48GX, 49G, 49G+, and 50 for the past 27 years. I have returned to the 48GX for my daily use. It feels the most comfortable to me.

I will admit that the big enter key on the 48 is nice - both size-wise and
location-wise. It also is easier on the batteries. However, the speed
increase, CAS, and bigger screen as well as the SD card on the 50g more
than make up for it.

My guess is that after the 50g is discontinued they will eventually become
more valuable than any 48. I'm just glad I have mine (and my 12c!) and I
will probably get another.

The app has been updated and does work. There does seem to be a bug that will make the app crash.

If you put the iPHone to sleep while m48+ is active and then turn it back on the app will crash. I have reported the bug.

No update for m48 on my iPad 1 running iOS 5...

He said the free version (m48) would have updates coming later this month. There are perks to supporting the developers. :-)

I purchased the software actually. The paid version is what I have
installed, and what has not been updated on iOS 5. Perhaps he is no longer
supporting iOS 5.

Sorry. You said m48 and I assumed the free version. Fire off an email. He is a really nice guy and responsive. Os5 is pushing it though.

Any planned date for fixes on m48 (not m48+)?
Please help!
Thanks

I think we can expect later this month based on my earlier post. Why not pay $10 and support the developer and get a fix? Moving files to and from is nice!

I already did, no fix yet. Hopefully he gets it together soon.

I had the same problem when moving from my previous iPhone 6 to iPhone 8.
I just discovered that the crash must be caused by a difference in the way the emulator data are stored and treated by the new CPU.
Reinstalling m48+ on the iPhone 8 basically fixed the problem, even though the frequent crashes are still there ...
I had to transfer and store all the libraries and directories I often need on my beloved virtual calculator over again. Luckily, I still had most of them available on my PC ready for (re-)transfer.

Apparently, the problem at stake is not the emulator as such, but the way the file is stored/retrieved in/from the full iPhone backup file. Simply reinstalling m48+ on my new iPhone 8 fixed the problem. Of course, I had to transfer and store all my favorite directories and libraries over again ...

Same feeling for me! ANyway, the good news is: the emulator does work on the newer iPhones with current update of the iOS.
