Has any one had problems geting the connectivity software supplied on
CD with the 50G to work. Installation of software and USB driver
appears OK, but software gives an error and does not enable you to do
anything with it. I' m using WinXP Home (with SP2) on a Fujitsu-Siemens
laptop.

If the "HPx9G+" device showed up in Conn4x,
and if you started "Xmodem server" on the calc
[right-shift then cursor-right],
and if you then clicked the "connect" button in Conn4x,
and if Conn4x still said it could not connect,
then cancel and go to:

APPS > I/O Functions > Transfer > Port > CHOOS > USB

then OK or ENTER until back to the stack display,
then re-start Xmodem server (as above).

I forgot to add that Conn4x is v2.33 Build 2434 and the error message
is;

Access Violation at address 004046D in module "Conn4x.exe". Write of
address 00000008

Sometimes the address is 00000004

Any ideas???

The Access Violation at address 004046D, should be 004046D4. I typed
the wrong address!

I saw no sign of HPx9G+ in Conn4x, I've just simply got no connection
established between the PC and HP 50G. Tried your suggestion with no
luck.

It will not connect until the device driver
is properly installed into Windows
(are there instructions in your manual or CD?),
and then Conn4x should be able to detect it
in the "Connect using" drop-down,
whenever the calculator is plugged in and turned on.

When you right-click your XP "Start" button,
is there an "Open All Users" entry in the menu?
(If not, the account you are using
might not belong to computer admininstrators,
and might not be able to install drivers).

"Access violation" is an application program error;
hopefully it may relate to incorrect driver installation,
and might go away after proper installation.

I had the same troubles with this version (some sort of Windows
problem I guess). Just try the older one
(http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=351775&dest_page=product&os=228)

If older works, is not a Windows problem :-)

Looks like Conn4x is the problem. I spoke to HP Calculator Customer
service who have logged the problem. Initial suggestion was to remove
other applications to see what is causing the conflict.

I am also experiencing the same problem with this version of conn4x
that I did not experience with the older version so I think the problem
is with conn4x.

Paul,
please check "help" "about" on your con-kit and report the build number.
Mats linked con-kit, give Version 2.2 Build 2353.
This con-kit works fine.

Note the Setup_ReadMe.txt from the above download... if it applies to
your problem.

Best regards
Heiko

The earlier version will load and work, but trying the newer version on
several PC's with WinXP Home or Pro
gives the same result of access violation. See also recent posting in
this group by "Ivo".

The linked con-kit works, minus screencapture. Build 2353, the 49g+ one.

Same problem with same version (build 2434). Tried on 3 PC's
I've spoken to 2 other users who had similar problems, although one
could install and run it on his Toshiba without problems.
I'm now using older version fro 49G+, version 2.1, build 1689 and it
seems to work just fine with the HP 50g, including ROM update.
Lucky we have quite a few spare CD's of version 2.1 so we can include
those with teh HP50g's

Could someone please tell me which button is the 'reset' button that
you're supposed to press?

The con-kit comes up with the instruction that you're supposed to press
the + and - buttons for three seconds while you press the reset button?

~sorry this just doesn't make any sense....

Thanks,

Franklin

YIKES! I'm not making sense.... I'm trying to upgrade to OS 2.09

1) Using the HP49G+/50g connectivity kit: ***** instructions here
incomplete*****

I should have looked a little further....

2) Using a SD card
Copy the files: 4950_92.bin and update.scp that are in the zip archive
on a SD card formatted in using the FAT format (not FAT32).
On the calculator, Press and hold the + and - Button and press on the
RESET button using a paper clip or other blunt object.

ok?

Please see:

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.hp48/msg/a71de7e7a61665e7

This does of course put to waste all the effort that Kinpo spent
on that real extra internal key that Joe Horn found
(they should have put more effort into the visible keys, then,
but now I guess the past is past, so if the key now fits, just press it :)

Hi there: visited both links and tried the on-D, on-C then the
immediate + & - combination repeatedly with my OS 2.09 HP50g and could
not duplicate your results.
Has anybody else got these instructions to work?

~thanks from franks

Yes, It works for me. After you do the ON-D then ON-C, you quickly
depress both the + and - keys simultaneously. Hold them down for a
little while, say 5 seconds or so; then release them. That should put
you in the mode where you can update the code.

One way to exit that mode is to select the (2) SELFTEST and then ON-C
to exit that routine.

I am running build 2353 on my Sony Vaio and it's very hard to use.
When you click on the drop-down list containing the list of the
available connection it very briefly display the content and then close
the list.
So it takes me several minutes sometimes to finally click on the
HPx9+... it's really a pain
As soon as I start Conn4x I here the fan of my laptop going like crazy..

The problem is in the Australian Regional Settings - when changed to
USA locale the software does not produce the error message. Which
explains why there were so few reports on this problem ....

If you turn your computer upside down it should fix the problem.

Colin. I'm shocked. Are Australians allowed to tell Australian jokes? <G>

Of course we are! We're the only ones weird enough to understand them. :-P

(And besides, the kangaroos don't laugh in the right places.)
