I see something like this with my 1M GRiD card; I turn on the calc, the
screen goes black for a few seconds, and the calc turns off. If I'm
lucky, it turns on again the next try.

I've found that changing the calc batteries, the card battery, or both
fixes the problem-- the hard part is getting the calc turned on with
the card in it, so I don't lose the card contents while changing that
battery.
