I need a connector for my HP48GX's 4 pin, except that I can't seem to
find it anywhere. I'm thinking of taking a few electronic things (old
floppy drives, etc) I have laying around apart to see if I can find one
that fits.

However a question comes to mind... isn't there some company that
specializes in connector manufacturing that has HP48 connectors?

Some connectors for the audio-part of some CD-ROM drives can be used
as you wish. :-)

I don't know if somebody makes them or not, but I've found compatible
connectors in both very old mice (not the just that Microsoft now sells) and
in old 5.25" floppy drives. They're usually white moulded plastic, and work
just fine!

I just bought my HP cable from this company and it arrived a few days
ago. Their website is at:

http://muffet.com/hp/hp.html

It costed me $12 w/shipping. Very reasonable, I thought, since every
place here in Utah had it for $50! Actually, I found out about this
place AFTER I bought one from the University's bookstore. So, as you
can guess, I returned the HP one and bought one from them. The only
*slight & minor* drawback is that HP's 4-pin connector is thicker, so
it's less likely to move or jostle, especially vertically cuz' that
could break the pins inside. This is only a concern when you're
inserting the plug...you'll just need to be a bit more careful than
normal. But like I said before, it's a very minor thing.

You can download the software free or buy it from them for $5. The site
also includes instructions for building one yourself. I just thought to
myself, why bother, it's the same price as a CD.

Hope this helps.
