Hi,

where might I get an HP48G-to-PC serial cable in the UK?

And is it true that all I need to do is buy the
cable, because the required software is available
for free on the web? If so, I'd be grateful if someone
could point me in the right direction.

I acquired an HP48G in a car-boot sale!

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,

David

I don't know about getting the cable in the UK but you can get it from
Germany here: http://www.cynox.de/eng/index.html

The part number you want is Cable 82208-80001 which is a DB9 female to
connect to the serial port on your PC and a 4-pin female to plug into
the 48.

If your PC doesn't have a traditional serial port then the USB<->Serial
convertors do work but you might have to fiddle around a bit.

I don't know of anywhere that still has them in stock. I suggest that
you try ringing 0207 458 0161 which is the support line run by
www.calcsandmore.com on behalf of HP in the UK. Otherwise eBay might
have some or you can have a go at making your own cable. There are two
or three different sets of instructions at
<http://www.hpcalc.org/hp48/docs/misc/> that you might like to try.

Yes. The software can be found at

Many thanks.

I'm also being quoted the part number F1015C. Is there a difference??

Chris

According to this site
<http://www.arc13.be/hp_calculators/HP_calculator.htm> the F1015C is for
both the 38G and the 48 which means that it is the wrong cable since the
38G has the newer 10 pin port not the original 4 pin port that the 48G
has.

F1015A seems to be the right one but it is the 100/200LX connectivity
kit, which includes the cable plus an adaptor for the 48GX.

The cable that came with my 49g had an adapter that allowed it to be
plugged into my 48gx. The F1015C probably comes with this.
