Here is link for custom HP Prime skin with horizontal orientation (screen on the left, keyboard on the right).

This is screen:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3PHsXMorgToTlllNzIycWx0Z1k/edit

An the skin file:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3PHsXMorgTobmozZEtzVkMtc3M/edit

Installation:

Download these two files, and copy it to HP Prime install directory (default is C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Prime Virtual Calculator ), restart HP Prime Emulator and new skin will be available in the Skins menu.

Fullscreen doesn't look nice (due to specific skin look with screen side sharing apps and navigation keys), but default view fits nicely with smaller resolution screens.

Hope someone will like it.

I do.

Unless things have changed, you can make it copy a second bit of the graphic in fullscreen mode. In the 39gII emulator, something like this worked for two separate parts split similar to how you've done there. Here's what was in the "large" 39gII skin which had buttons below the screen similar to what you've done. Some experimentation will probably get you something that works.

MAXIMIZED=0,99,462,670
MAXIMIZED1=57,363,462,202,58,266
MAXIMIZED2=570,99,462,468,570,0

Thank You.

When someone who made decision on keyboard layout of HP Prime likes this, then it's really compliment.

Thank You for the tips about fullscreen mode, I'll try to fix it as soon as I get some spare time.

P.S. I thought to rearrange key section around cursor pad in order to fit nicely in available space (now its original layout just stretched vertically), but I guess it wouldn't be fair to your work (I read about it in x^y key topic). :-)

Brilliant, thank you!!!

I can now use the emulator on my web-book without the need to change to a distorted screen resolution.

Here is updated version of my skin (old link in my first post shouldn't work any more), with fixed full-screen view (many thanks to TW for useful information about skin file configuration), and minor changes related to pressed key display position for couple of keys.

So out of curiosity, what drove you to make this? Screen size? Preference? Because you could...?

Hi Martin!

I've downloaded the updated version of your skin, installed it in: C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Prime Virtual Calculator folder, and I get an error message.

error says: "Error while loading skin (27)" and I'm not able to see the skin working.

What can I do to view this skin correctly?

Thank you.

You need both .skin file and .BMP image of skin. In the first post you have link to .BMP (one that still works) and in the later post is only new updated .skin file.

Sorry for the inconvenience, it's the first time I use Google drive for file sharing.

TW,

Well, it's a little bit of all that.

First, I like doing thing like this, and I also like challenges, when I saw .skin file and figured out I could make it, I tried, and here is the result. Screen size is also one of the reasons, and personal preference to horizontal versus vertical calculator design. There is one horizontally orientated skin, but it fills most of the screen estate in 1366x768.

Since I read about programmable calculators (some 30 years ago, when I was teenager) I always tried to sketch my own version, most of the time horizontally orientated, because, although vertical orientation is most suitable for 'in hand' usage, horizontal orientation is much better for 'on desk' usage. And most of the time those where 'ahead of time' designs (with to big screens and too small dimensions) :-)

I like it - and can't help think how cool it would be if the real
calculator was in landscape format like this.

O.K. folks, here is little something for all of us who remember good old days when HP-41 was 'king of the hill' (for some, it still is):

HP Prime skin resembling HP-41 (again horizontal/landscape orientation), with minor changes to original signs of HP Prime (no letters on shift and alpha keys, CHS instead of +/-, and blue colour for letters, and orange for signs above letters).

Enjoy it, and feel free to share:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3PHsXMorgToLVBZLUJ5TlprTGs/edit?usp=sharing

P.S. Instructions: extract .zip file, move .skin and .bmp file to HP Prime installation folder, restart HP Prime, and choose Prime Nostalgia under Skins menu.
