I'm having problems using the SD card slot. When I insert a SD card, it is
recognized (filer shows port 3), and I can use it without problems. However,
after I turn the calculator off, and on again, the card is still shown in
filer but isn't usable. If I press cursor right to show the contents, the
sandclock comes on for about 20 seconds, then I get an empty directory. Also
STO and RCL operations won't work on port 3. After I take out the card and
insert it again, everything works. But obviously I don't want to do this
every time before I access the card, I want to keep it inserted all the
time. This happens on both of my units, and I also tried two different
brands of SD cards.
Do you have the same problem? Does anyone know a solution? Am I doing
something terribly wrong?
Thanks for your help,
Thomas
I wondered about that "feature" myself. I also have to reinsert the card
into the calc to have the contents of the card listed in the filer. The
contents of the card are also not shown when pressing [RS]-[LIB], no :3:
softmenu shows up. But maybe this functionality will be added in a new ROM.
My calc also refuses to work with some particular SD cards (But I have to
say that my digital camera refuses to work with some of them too).
I'm afraid that not recognizing the card is either a hardware problem or the
"drivers" for the card support are not yet fully complete and will be
(hopefuly) on the next flash ROM.

It says in the manual that the SD card will not show up in the LIB menu,
only in Filer.

Hi all HP-49G+ interrested people,
I'm experiencing the same problems. I have also observed that the
filer shows only 60MB for a 64MB card. Where are the other 4MBs? I
suspect that the SD card support will need some debugging to be
useful. But ok for the moment at least it seems to be possible to
store programs and even execute them in the SD card. Sometimes I get a
'unknown DOS error' when accessing the SD card. I will also experiment
with formatting the card. From other devices (MP3 player / DigiCam) I
know that formatting can cause problems (FAT16 / FAT32). I heard that
Windows XP doesn't properly support the FAT16 format. I'll let you
know when I find out more.

In infinite wisdom Daniel Diggelmann answered:
Just out of curiosity, what kind of SD card are you using?
I have a Sandisk 256MB, and it works OK for my digital camera,
but posters have reported that these are not the best. Perhaps
we can determine which brands the 49G+ plays well with, or at
least those it does not play well with, saving those of us who
get 49G+'s later some unecessary difficulty.
Personally, I think most of a 256MB card would be mostly wasted, due
to the large cluster size and small size of most calculator programs.
I've got an extra 256MB card, but I think I'll save it for my camera
and buy a 32MB card for the HP.

What device does one have to have plugged into their computer to
format SD cards? I have vaguely heard about them, but since I have no
digital camera, etc. that uses them ( My Sony uses a mind CD RW disk
for storage), I have had no need of them up until the 49G+/
Who's up for the challenge of writing a PDF viewer for the 49G+ so we
can read the manual on the calc?

The main reason is hardware manufacturer always mentionning card size
*unformatted*.
I found what the filer report to be extremely accurate.

Of course it supports FAT16.. I use it all the time!
The newly support for FAT32 in digital camera is also very recent (hum,
that's a recursive sentence)
