I am looking forward to using HPUX but may also install a 64 bit Linux
on my rx2600 that supports KDE v4 and Gnome.
PS - Please provide a download link for a Linux 64 bit itanium iso image.
Thank You
Tony Rodriguez
If you go to www.debian.org, follow the "CD ISO images" link under
"Getting Debian" on the left hand side, then follow say the "Download
a minimal bootable CD image" link, you want the bits labled "ia64."
The term "ia64" or "IA64" was used to describe Itanium early-on and
has stuck in "Linux-land" to this day.

these opinions are mine, all mine; HP might not want them anyway... :)
feel free to post, OR email to rick.jones2 in hp.com but NOT BOTH...

Define "better" :)
Novell and RedHat offer "formal" support for HP Integrity systems for
SuSE and RHEL respectively. I have used both on Integrity systems in
the course of my work over time. Those times when I wanted to "play"
with upstream kernels (kernel.org) I have started with a Debian
install - mainly because the first person to teach me how to build an
upstream kernel did so in the context of a Debian system and those are
the only notes I still have :) I've not used Fedora, nor OpenSuSE so
cannot comment on their relative merits/support.

A. Because it is hard to follow the conversation
Q. Why is top-posting considered anti-social?

The glass is neither half-empty nor half-full. The glass has a leak.
The real question is "Can it be patched?"
I suspect that a "better" answer to that would be found on a linux
group :-)
the only thing hp-related here is the hardware, after all
Tony Rodriguez
I'm not trying to either...I'm only suggesting that since you're
talking about OSes and support, the linux community *might* have a
better feel for this. You might also find someone that's done this on
one of them as well.
Of course, as Rick noted, there are vendors that provide distributions
and support. I suspect that cost plays into this as well?

On an rx3600 I ran SLES10 SP1 with success. I think you can downlaod it
for free at Novell, and you'll get 60 days free updates.
(SLES10 SP3 or SLES11 is current now)

Haven't tested graphics, only network and SAN.
Some Linux guys are members of both groups.
RHEL is distributing a version for Itanium.
I did not try it, but I just want to state that knowledge of RX....
servers is not a privilege of this group.
