Does anyone know about the current state of those plans, as earlier
announced by HP? The HP website is hard to navigate as it is, so
I decided to ask here (also as an attempt to liven this place up a
bit).

Something with a lot of potential would be VxVM and VxFS/OnlineJFS,
needless to say. Maybe it would be an idea if HP could acquire this
from Symantec? (Ever since Veritas got acquired.)

Maybe I haven't paid attention, but it seems like HP-UX has been
the biggest user of his (albeit in its OEM'ed form).

Unless HP have changed their mind in the past few months,
I'm not aware such plans exist.
Quite the contrary, they have repeatedly stated that HP-UX
will stay on Itanic, and x86 will run Linux and Windoof.

The HP website sucks, just like most big IT companies' sites.

VxFS is already part of HP-UX, since the mid 1990s.
OnlineJFS needs a license, iirc, so you're out of the game
as a hobbyist.

Sources like The Register indeed deny (or denied) that HP had any plans
to, but I read on the HP site that they did have plans (supposedly).

So, it remains much of a mystery still.

I think that was also fueled by the on-going 'dispute' with Oracle at
the time.

Yes, I'm aware.

Well, I've had the privilege of using it once and could tell it's
very interesting and not to mention able, to say the least.

Like I said, HP should consider acquiring it from Symantec and
perhaps adding it to the "base" OE upwards. I mean, it would
be able to compete with ZFS and the like nicely.

Without things like it... well, what point is there to port
HP-UX at all? (If you asked me.) It's certainly one of the
more interesting things, that left a very good impression with
me.
