Hello,

I have an HP9000/E35 with 10.20 installed (but partially removed by the
previous owner, who wiped the entire /usr directory--and others as
well--before he got rid of the machine). Basically, it will autoboot to
a login prompt, or I can boot into the single-user mode, but there isn't
much else that it will do after that.

Because of the corrupted system, I tried to do a cold install of 10.20
from my CD-ROM set, but have had no success.

When I boot the computer from the Install CD-ROM, the process gets to
the point of searching for a destination disk, then halts because it
can't find one. "ioscan" finds the DAT drive at 56/52.0, the CD-ROM at
56/52.2, a hard drive at 56/52.5, and another hard drive (the primary
boot path) at 56/52.6. Clearly, there is a bootable hard drive in the
machine, so I'm at a loss to explain what's going on!

I'm fairly new to HP-UX. I've dug through the LaserROM files, but can't
find anything (so far) that helps me with this problem. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Stan

Hey Stan....

Put in the Core Install OS CD in and reboot. When a message comes to the
screen saying it's looking for a boot device.. Hit the "Esc" key.
It will then search for all bootable devices on your system. Choose the
cdrom! This will get you to the point of reinstalling the OS!

It should work without problems and I have installed many HP-UX systems
over the years. Are you sure you have a S800 Install CD and not an S700
one?
