Hello everyone,

I would like to know if anyone a has a manual for this ASUS P2B-VE Rev.
1.02 HP OEM motherboard used in various Pavillion's system's. I have been
trying to upgrade this motherboard with a faster CPU, a Pentium III 500 Mhz.
From the HP site and looking at the motherboard it should be able to handle
500mhz and bus of 100mhz. Since I bought this system at a swapmeet it never
came with an original case. I have no idea what Pavillion Model it is even
after looking at the " HP Pavillion Support Information " on this system. I
have also FLASHED the BIOS with Revision 1.14 and still no luck. I
appreciate any help.

It's been a while since I looked at this info, but not all PIIIs are the
same. Your motherboard needs the older ( Katmai ? ) processor. The newer
ones ( Coppermine? )won't work.

There used to be a lot of useful information on ASUS' web site, but I
can't find it at the moment.

I may not have the processor names correct, but there is a compatibility
issue.

The Coppermine Processors are built on the 0.18 micron process. These are
the specs on my Slot 1 CPU
sSpec Number SL365
Processor Frequency 500 MHz
CPUID String 0672
Package Type S.E.C.C.2
Core Voltage 2.0V
Bus Speed 100 MHz
Thermal Design Power 28.0W
Core Stepping kB0
Max Junction Temp 90° C
L2 Cache Size 512K
Die Size 0.25 micron
L2 Cache Speed 250 MHz
ECC/non-ECC ECC

Boxed/OEM Processor? Both

Since it's 0.25 micron it's not a Coppermine. Still wondering why it won't
support it. The motherboard itself has Pentium II printed on it I guess
that's the only choice I have to upgrade it a Pentium II 450 Mhz since the
highest speed they were built to.

Your PC may be a 6405. I have one with the exact same motherboard. HP's
website has some info on this. I'm replacing mine as I'm finding it doesn't
like upgrades, but what your planning should be ok.

I could be way off on this, but I seem to recall the ASUS designation of 'P2...' means Pentium II
processors. The Celeron would be a little over this class of processor. I would suggest that you
check with www.powerleap.com and see if they have an upgrade certified for it...luck...

Yeah P2 is Pentium 2, mine actually was a Celeron processor as well.
