I have some serious problems with the wireless function on my HP Pavillion
DV6000 laptop. I have recently bought this laptop with a preinstalled
Windows Vista on it. The Wireless Assistant worked flawlessly under Vista.
Nevertheless I found that Vista worked too slow on my HP Pavillion, so I
deleted it and installed a Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2. I
also downloaded all WinXP drivers directly from www.hp.com. Now everything
work smoothly except the wireless connection which I can not make work at
all. No matter in which position - on or off - I turn the Wireless switch,
the indicator light remains red and I get the same message every time in the
pop up window at the bottom of the display:
"HP Wireless Assistant
WLAN: Disabled"
I have tried to fiddle with various settings in Windows without avail.
Anyone has any idea what can be wrong, and what shall I to do for getting it
work?
Thanks in advance for any advices,
Gyorgy

I've had the same problem today with my new HP laptop. The solution
was to make sure you've downloaded the Intel drivers for the WLAN.
Even if you have the drivers for the Wireless Assistant from HP it
won't work without the Intel drivers as well.
The following is a link to a full guide with extraordinary detail on
the whole process of changing from Vista to XP on HPs. Read down to
where it says to download the Intel wireless drivers and use the link
to get the driver and hopefully fix the problem!

Good Luck!
Today I have solved my problem almost accidentally! I happened to check the
Downloads page of hp.com, and I discovered that they released a new version
of the Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver. I installed it, and my wifi started to
work instantly!
The new driver: sp36684.exe. Released: 2007-08-15. Version: 6.20
(It has replaced the sp34152, 2006-11-10. Version: 6.10 A)
Thanks for everyone for the inputs!
Regards,
Gyorgy
