We have an HP Laserjet 1100, and a tech here accidentally pointed an Epson
configuration program that the HP. Ever since then, the HP 1100 looks
fairly fried, and we cannot get it even come online. It just blinks an
orange status light. Is there a way we can force a complete reset of the
device back to some basic known configuration?

If you power off the printer and disconnect it from the computer and power back
on what is the status of each light? Which are on or off and which are blinking?
You can do a partial reset by pressing the large button for more than 5 seconds
and less than 10 or a full reset by pressing and holding the button for more
than 20 seconds.

The printer is a parallel port model, connected to TCP through a JetDirect
500X. Facing the front of the printer, the large power on button name LED
1, and the two smaller LEDs to the right of that name LED 2 and LED 3.

To comply with your instructions I:

1) Powered off printer.

2) Disconnected parallel port on back of printer.

3) Powered on printer

4) At this point LED 1 comes green, then LED 2 is green, then LED 3 is
orange. This pattern repeats one more time. At the end, LED 3 blinks
repeatedly in an orange color and never stops blinking.

5) I then held down the LED 1 button for 25 seconds, at which point I
release the LED 1 button and LED 3 continues to blink orange.

Assuming that the attention light is blinking and the other two are off then
this is either a paper jam in the printer, the door is not correctly closed or
the toner cartridge is not fully installed. Or in extremely rare cases an
electronic failure.

That was sufficient information to help me find the problem. Thanks!
