The problem that occurs is that text prints as odd symbols on numerous
pages. Oddly enough the printer would properly print the network header
page.
Two workstations have this problem. One is an IBM PS1 486SX33. In the
past it was running Windows 3.1 and was connected to the network with an
Arcnet card. It now has a 3com ethernet card and is running Windows for
Workgroups 3.11.
The other workstation is a new Pentium 166 PC assembled by a local
reseller. It is running MSDOS 6.22 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11. In
order to print we have directly connected an old Laserjet IIP which works
properly, but it will not print to the 5P over the network.
The problem is consistant in either Works for Windows or Notepad. DOS
text based applications print properly. A laptop computer has been
plugged into both ethernet outlets and prints fine.
In both cases we have installed the Windows printer drivers from the
disks supplied with the printer with no apparent problems. The latest
driver from HP has been installed on one computer, but that did not solve
the problem. Incidentally both workstations print to an old Tandy dot
matrix printer.
What do you suggest? Are there other aspects about our network that would
be important to look into.
