HP's PA-8200 workstations, long promised, seem to be well-behind schedule.
It was supposed to be the fastest processor, beating alpha, and delivering
a SPEC-FP95 of 25.0. But DEC announced their 600 MHz alpha one month ago, and
it does a cool 27.0 on the SPEC FP benchmarks. And HP is still silent.
The PA-8200 was supposed to be a 220 MHz processor, but all I have seen
so far is an announcement of the V-class server that uses a 200MHz PA-8200.
Are they having yield problems on their fab or what? Does anybody know when
the PA-8200 workstations might actually ship? Any guesses on the price?

They are shipping the C200 in September, your local rep should be able to
take an order now. Dunno the exact price, probably 50% higher than the C180
if I had to guess. There's also a K480 or somesuch that uses these things.

Yield problems wouldn't be unreasonable considering they are doing this on a
.5 micron process and everyone else is well entrenched in .35 micron.
