Yes, it does support CF type II cards, according to the accessories
brochure. The largest CF(II) I know of is 256MB. Also, there's the IBM
1gig microdrive, which isn't actually flash memory, but it is a type
II CF card and I believe I've seen that someone in this newsgroup is
using one on their iPaq. It's a real harddrive with the moving parts
and all, so's you gotta figure it's a big power hog compared to
regular compact flash.

According to Compaq the CF sleeve can't deliver enough power to reliably
use a Microdrive. The article on ZD Anchordesk (they got 40 minutes
battery life playing MP3s from the Microdrive) tends to support this.

256M is pretty damn big for a handheld, though.

With the amount of money used to buy a 256Mb or 1Gb microdrive, I could get
another PPC...
I tot Fujitsu has come up with a 1Gb flash ram, I think it's on PCMCIA.

Supposedly the IBM 1 gb Microdrive doesn't take too much power but if you
want to avoid any power drain on the unit then you should get the PC
Expansion Pack for the IPAQ (not the CF Expansion Pack) since it has it's
own battery pack. Three drawbacks: 1) you need a PC Card Adaptor to convert
the microdrive from CF to PC, 2) The PC Card Adaptor is about $150 compared
to $40 for the CF Exp. Pack, and 3) It more than doubles the IPAQ's
thickness. I guess you have to outweigh the differences! Oh yeah...the 1gb
drive is $500 (the same price as the IPAQ - you could almost start thinking
about a laptop at this point).
