- The print speed seems just as good as the regular DeskJets. It kicked
out a 300x300 DPI MS-Word page in just about 40 seconds. (Compared to the
original DeskJet, which a friend of mine has, which takes 4 MINUTES to kick
out the same page!)
- The battery is said to be good for 100 pages, although I haven't seen
just how true that is.
- Just printing straight text, it'll do about 2 PPM in letter quality mode
and 3 PPM in draft mode (lighter printing).
- It's a real DeskJet, speaking PCL 3, which gives it a large advantage
over, say, the Canon printers. No offense to Canon... :-) (In fact, rumor
has it that the mechanism inside the portable DeskJet is made by Canon.)
- This thing looks beautiful on my desk. It's jet black, with gray buttons.
HP clearly has some decent people working on the ergonomics and appearence of
their devices.
- I got the cut sheet feeder, which holds 50 sheets. The entire setup
(printer + cut sheet feeder) can be folded flat so it's easy to lug around.
Needless to say, I am impressed. And no, I don't work for HP... but I use
a ridiculously large number of their products these days, so I may be a
little biased. :-) (If only HP would start making watches again...!)

Joel,
Can you get a carring case for it. ie similar to ones
people carry their Laptops in ? My brother is thinking of upgrading from his
Epson 24 pin printer. ( Which he will give to me. ) He got a Gateway 2000 66MHz
486 and I guess he figures he must move up to a fancier printer too; which is
entirely O.K. with me.
BTW I have finally launched myself into the Messy Dos world.
When my brother bought his 486 I got his old computer. A 386 20MHz which I am
in the process of upgrading to a 386 40 MHz with 128K cache memory,Co-Processor
and 8 Megs of SIMM RAM. ( Had to,unhappily, because I could only get it to run
at 10 MHz with the turbo switch in, and the repair shop couldn't fix it)
Still have my Commodore 128 and I am going to keep it; for
situations just like the above. In fact I am writing this note on the Mainframe
at school through a modem and my trusty 128. Is's still good for somthing other
than a big paper weight. Happy Holidays.
