Has anybody had any experience at all with this product? I was hoping to get
in contact with somebody that has had beta test experience, or has seen it
at a show.

If you don't already know about the Palmconnect USB Kit, visit

Is this for MAC only, or also PCs?

This is from the press release ( http://www.palm.com/pr/palmiiie.html ):

"Palm Computing also today announced new accessories for the Palm Computing
family of organizers, including a new solution for connecting to PC and
Macintosh computers via Universal Serial Bus ports. The PalmConnect® USB kit
is a cable that allows users to connect HotSync® cradles and cables to PCs,
laptops and Apple USB-equipped systems. The kit, expected to be available in
August, includes the latest version of the Palm Desktop software for
Macintosh users and is listed for a price of U.S. $39.95."

Sounds like it works on PCs to me.

Yes, but the reason I ask is that my Palm Desktop software (where I specifiy
which port I want to use for hotsync), does not list USB.. Therefore, If the
package "includes the latest version of the Palm Desktop software for
Macintosh users", then a PC user couldn't use it, therefore not be able to
access the USB port. Correct??????

This is why I asked.

Thanks.

AFAIK there is nothing that indicates that this is any more than another
USB-Serial adapter - with a Palm logo on it.

It "Connects" to a Hotsync cradle, so will just be another COM port, but
using USB instead of a physical serial connector.

Aint nothing new here. Not even the standard wish form this newsgroup
getting goofed up by the pointy-haired marketeers at 3Com.

I am willing to be proved wrong on this, but the silence and lack of
detail from 3Com is deafening.

Doesn't neccesarily follow. 'Includes software x' means what it says,
not 'unsuitable for use with device y'.

Belkin has an adapter that goes from USB to serial, I have been using it for
over two months
only once had a problem, had to unplug, wait and replug
works great and leaves my serial port open for my label printer
