In this newsgroup, as well as over in Microsoft.public.pocketpc, I have
seen mentioned several times that it is unwise to run LiIon batteries
down to 0%. Inexplicably I found this morning the battery on my E335 had
run down to that level. I immediately began charging it and it is
responding (~45 mins of charge results in 40% charge acquistion). My
question is what are the ramifications of letting it discharge to such a
low level and for what symptoms of damage should I be vigilant?

Hello Jeff,

Not an expert on batteries....but wanted to point out (you may be aware of
this) that by letting main battery go to zero, the backup battery had to
expend energy to retain memory. To my way of thinking, that is the biggest
concern with letting main battery run down...dave

I am new to the PPC world but I thought the Toshiba actually didn't have
a backup battery. I think I have read that as one of the downsides of
the model, the fact that if you run the main battery down you might lose
data as there is no backup battery to maintain the memory. Is that not
right?
I had assumed that the power management scheme reported the battery at
0% but actually was holding some in reserve to maintain the memory for
some time while one found some electrons to stuff into the battery.

Thanks for responding.

As for the original post I have noticed no ill effects of the battery
discharge episode. Perhaps I ducked a bullet?
