LAS VEGAS, January 9, 1997 -- Rounding out the full line of Zaurus PC

pocket-sized mobile PC solution with an integrated 14.4/9.6 kbps
Data/Fax Modem and included Internet Provider E-mail software. The
ZR-3500X is Microsoft Windows compatible, bundled with a PC link cable
and Zaurus Application Partner for Windows95 (ZR-AP2C), which
synchronizes PC and Zaurus data, and provides Drag and Drop file
exchange with Microsoft Word and Excel documents.

In addition to robust Windows 95 synchronization and communication
capabilities, the ZR-3500X offers a Backlight Illuminated Display, 1
MB RAM (650 KB available for user data), plus an additional 1 MB FLASH
memory that can store optional add-on Zaurus applications or data file
backups.

"The ZR-3500X is ideal for business users because it is uniquely
designed to work both as a stand alone device, as well as a PC
companion with powerful communications and Windows 95 synchronization
capabilities," says Mary Repke, Director of Marketing, Consumer
Business Products Group, Sharp Electronics Corporation.

Microsoft Compatibility Built in Word Processing and Spreadsheet
applications are compatible with MS Word and MS Excel file formats.
Users can easily create Word and Excel documents and then seamlessly
transfer them back and forth between a Zaurus and PC. The new ZR-AP2C
software, included with the ZR-3500X, allows for Drag and Drop file
exchange right onto the Windows95 desktop.

supports full send and reply functions with file attachments users can
send and receive files over the Internet using POP3/SMTP protocols.
This software is installed in the 1 MB FLASH ROM area of the ZR-3500X,
and requires an account with an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Additionally, built-in CompuServe software provides access to weather,
stocks and Auto-Pilot (plus CompuServe Mailbox, Forums and Executive
News Service). An integrated 14.4/9.6 Kbps Data/Fax Modem lets users
send and receive e-mail, dial into CompuServe or send faxes. Optional
PC-based software allows users to remotely send and receive Microsoft
Mail or Lotus cc:Mail e-mail messages from their desktop PC.

The built-in IrDA/ASK infrared port permits wireless data exchanges
with infrared-capable PCs, printers and other Zaurus models, and has
the same one-touch PC-Link and E-mail keys found on the ZR-3000.

The ZR-3500X boasts a 320-by-240 pixel touch screen LCD, a Backlight

5800 has a larger screen and a pcmcia slot. Does not have modem and does
not have Zmail pop mail cliant (also does not ship with link cable or
software.

The internal modem on the 3500 looks nice, but what about the
software? Is there something the 5800 has this one doesn't? Or the
other way around?

Here are the differences between ZR-3500X and ZR-5800:

1. ZR-3500X comes with a buit in fax/modem.
2. ZR-3500X has a slightly smaller screen (although the resolution is
the same, i.e. 320 x 240).
3. ZR-3500X does NOT have a PC Card slot (therefore it is a bit
thinner).
4. ZR-3500X has the Compuserve Enhancement software - i.e. AutoPilto,
Weather & Stock - buit-in (it is available as a free add-on software
for ZR-5700/5800).
5. ZR-3500X has 1 MB Flash ROM storage area (in addition to 1 MB RAM)
buit-in (for add-on software installation and data backups from RAM).
6. ZR-3500X has Z-Em@il 1.1 (Internet SMTP/POP3 mail client, $80
value) pre-instaled in Flash ROM area.
7. ZR-3500X comes with Zaurus Application Partner for Windows 95
software (value of $30 when purchased separately from Pygmy Computer
Systems), which provides better desktop integration than HPC Explorer
which comes with Windows CE machines.
8. ZR-3500X has a dedicated key for PC link activation.
9. ZR-3500X has a dedicated e-mail icon on the side of the display
which brings up e-mail related software selection window.

The rest is the same as in ZR-3000/5700/5800.

I personally prefer my ZR-5800FX (FX means that it has a CE-FM4
"sidecar" fax/modem) due to the following:

1. 2 MB of built-in RAM (i.e. 1650 kB available to the user, as
opposed to 615 kB in ZR-3000/3500X).
2. PC Card slot for - among other things - memory expansion and data
backup via SRAM and Flash ROM PC Cards.
