OUTSIDE of synching mail u didnt say if u had a primary usage
requirement" if all u r looking for is basic out of the box
functionality-either palm3 or palmpc's do the job. palmpc's are
obviously the newer devices and ce was nearly a year behind palm pilot -
but their catching up fast. in terms of hardware id stay away from the
everex - ive only seent their inital offering. they have 2 more higher
end models one was called the executive, which i havent seen yet. but
the one that i got felt shamelessly cheap, from the minute i slipped
open the battery compartment it felt 'cheesy' - i got to see all of the
prototypes at ces in las vegas, and the phillips nino looked the best. i
dont think the nino is shipping yet-u might want to check their web
page. reding pop mail is doable with both and dialing in with terminal
window support is doable with both also - a little more work with the
pilot. ce 2 install on your desktop is a pain in the ass - you'll have
to re-install sp3-as with anything else because your adding services.
synching with microsoft products is very seamless. an interesting note
about the palms in terms of security, u take your little palm3 put it on
your ceo's craddle, while his machine is screen-locked and you can
download his mail, nice security feature. you'll see ce soon in your
cars, gas pumps, etc. the sub-notebooks devices like the nec mobile
pro750 run ce, and now give u a real useable keyboard-so if u want to do
wireless mail and reply now its for real. the phenom is another same
class device which just shows where ce is going, anywhere. the jury will
never be fully out on either, since it allways boils down to a personal
choice, but long-term ce is a better bet.

I don't use IR either. The best bet for you would be a PPPro with a TRG
upgrade board. They go as high as 8MB with 2MB of flash.

The cradle will drain batteries, but there is an unofficial fix for it ;)

Perhaps you didn't look deeply enough. the Palm has a daily, weekly, and
monthly view.

I personally wouldn't count them .. alpha and beta versions spring to
mind.

Anthony.

Dunno about the Everex - but the Casio A-10 was quite sluggish. The
Pilot is nice in that it's very snappy. Mind you - it's trying to do
less.

No. The pilot doesn't use rechargables - thou there is nothing to stop
you putting in the AAA variety. On the other hand - it's battery life
is EXCELLENT. Weeks and weeks - and I'm a heavy user. Add EcoHack and
double that again.

The first generation CE palmtops seems to have around 10 hour battery
life.

Yes. The standard datebook has a daily, graphical weekly and monthly
view.

You can get an excellent shareware program called Datebook3 - which adds
a textual weekly view - icons for the month view - and a *useful* year
view - lets you see (for example) where all the birthdays are. The
PalmCE year view doesn't give you any information apart from the date.

WinCE is windows and MSoft programs ONLY. No Netscape, no UNIX, no
Eudora, no Macs.

You can now sync mail with Pilot and Netscape or Eudora.

Yes. But it's limited to Microsoft's pre-determined "Mobile Channels" -
which means you can't just take any web-page with you (at present)

Check out AvantGo for Pilot - it lets you take any web tree with you.
Keen.

The only weird thing is that here in Australia - CE P/PC's are CHEAPER
than Palm 3's! By about $300!!!
