I do volunteer work for a nonprofit organization, which includes hardware
repair. We have a badly needed DEC VT320-B2 terminal which died a slow
death today. The video gradually faded to black, with some flicker. At
that time, terminal functions, filament, flyback and a steady green LED on
the power supply still worked. Now, the power supply LED blinks about
twice a second as it attempts to start each time. Voltages were nominal
on the power supply before the LED started to blink. I checked inside and
there were no obviously burned components, or cold solder joints, and the
fuse is ok.

Can anyone offer any suggestions, as I have no repair documentation or
schematics. An e-mail reply, or pointers to locations on the net with
information would be appreciated. I'll be contacting DEC on Monday..
hopefully they still have documentation available for the unit.

Thanks in advance for any information - please CC to the address below.

The cost to repair will probably be quite high, when you may be able to
obtain a used VT420 for under $100. Even an old 8086 PC with serial
port, DOS and Kermit could probably be had real cheap to act as a
terminal.

Good Luck!

We can sell you a good working unit for $50.00 seeing as it is to a non-profit
organization.
