Has anyone tried out the new VTX 2000 X terminals from DEC? I'm wondering
how they compare to the competition. The reason I ask is that I recently
purchased an NCD19 X terminal and the specs are very close to the mono 19
inch offering from DEC. Refresh rate, resolution, price and base memory
configurations are very similar. Are there any major differences between
these two X terminals? For example:

NCD19 VXT 2000
Base memory (MB) 4 4
Refresh rate (hz) 70 72
Monitor (mono) 19" 19"
DPI 100 100
Resolution 1280x1024 ?
Window Manager Motif Motif (look/feel for NCD)
CPU 15Mhz68020 VAX SOC (System on a Chip)
Co processors ASIC(x2) SPX
Price $4200 cdn $3295 us

I believe that the mouse for the VXT 2000 is optional (read: more $).
The NCD terminal comes with NCDnet (DECnet), TCP/IP, TFTP, Telnet, SLIP,
Cterm, LAT and more. What does that VXT support in terms of software?
Having little experiance with X terminals, am I missing any other important
issues?

Are these two X terminals *really* as similar as they seem?

We have NCD19b, VT1200 and one VXT 2000. The missing item in your
list for comparison is performance, i.e. Xstones rating. My list
shows the following:

NCD19b 17,000 Xstones
NCD19 32,000 Xstones
VT1200 10,000 Xstones
VXT2000 72,000 Xstones

The VXT2000 is a screamer. I really like it and I have had all 3 on
my desk at one time or another. It comes with support for running X
over LAT which is a nice feature. It also supports TCP/IP, Telnet,
etc.

The other thing I like about it is it comes in 2 flavors, stand-alone
as the VT1200 is, and server-based which is what we're using. Our
Infoserver loads the terminal. It works very nicely and doesn't burden
the VAX with this.

Nice terminal. I recommend it.
