The AlphaServer 800 Systems and Options Catlogue (SOC) chapter is
still online, e.g. at
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/SOC/QBQ24CPF.PDF for the
final edition
and
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/SOC/QB004GPF.PDF for the
first edition.
Both can be found via the general AlphaServer 800 page at
http://h18002.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/archive/800/
The final SOC for this server says that the 1MB S3 Trio graphics is on
the motherboard. I do not recollect whether this is correct but errors
in the SOC were relatively rare.
The final SOC shows the ELSA Gloria Synergy 8MB card (SN-PBXGK-BB) as
an available option, but whether it is supported (or works well enough
for what you want) under VMS is a slightly different question. I'm
assuming you want VMS. I could be wrong. If it is VMS, there is some
PBXGK discussion in comp.os.vms which you might want to check. There
is some OS-independent discussion too, related to "ringing" on the
video signal from this card.
In the very first SOC for this box, the PBXGB-AA and PBXGB-CA (the
TGA2 aka PowerStorm 3D30 and Powerstorm 4D20) are listed as supported
options under all three OSes (VMS, Unix, NT). Whether it is relevant
to you depends on what you want to do.
This was a server, so not many graphics cards would have been
qualified.
Apologies if this is stuff that you already knew.
