Socket U36 can accommodate 27256 eprom (or equivalent) with system
utilities such as Basic 8, Servant 128, a system wedge, or something
you create yourself.

I am sorry. The Italian law forbids me to commit homicide. Otherwise I'd
gladly help you out.

Being that this is comp.sys.cbm, this question is totally appropriate.
Don't let the idiots that are here to irritate people set you back.

Hmm, let's see. There have to be at least two people to have a conversation.
Unless you're having a mystique conversation with God or you're used to
visit a psychiatic hospital now and then during the week.

To have an intelligent conversation, you need at least one intelligent
individual and someone who's able to listen. I'm used to save the day, in
this kind of scenario, but this time my opponent is so dumb even speaking
about Google is like trying to teach skunks to solve quadratic equations.

On the other hand, Tom, you could have added something intelligent too, took
away the whole weight off of my shoulders. Sadly, you chose to intervene
only to play Forrest Gump's best friend and make an ass out of yourself.

Sheesh... You're not being very friendly in most of the threads, are
you? For starters you shouldn't call people dumb, I bet you don't like
it if they call you that. I know you are thinking; "they cannot judge me
as being dumb", you're right there, they can't and they shouldn't.
But the same goes for you.
So please let people have their dignity.

This is my only and final post in this thread, so don't expect any
replies from me on any flames.

Thank you.

I understand it looks like you said, Jurgen, but it's not the case. I am
very friendly by nature, just not always and not everywhere. I know
andromeda1968 very well, and I banned him from the sole Italian Commodore
mailing list that exists, which I founded, for many reasons. That happened
like...Uh, two years ago.

I am 99% sure he already asked this very question there, we replied, but
there he came back again asking the same question. He asks a lot of
questions, the majoriy he can look up by himself on the net, there you waste
your time replying to him, but he doesn't even bother to say "thank you" or
actually make any use of the informations you give to him.

You can either trust me or waste your time helping him out with his
questions. At the end, it's your time :-)

Peace.

Riccardo

Yes, it is possible and very simple. He needs only 32kB EPROM. Function ROM
is mapped in BASIC (and C128 monitor) bank 4 in $8000-$ffff area.
Entry point is at $8000 and at $8006 the following sequence of bytes must be
present:
$ff $43 $42 $4d
To start a program from EPROM it will be enough to copy it to destination
address in RAM and jump to entry address. Execution of program on Function
ROM can be prevented by pressing RUN/STOP during RESET, C128 will jump then
into monitor mode and one can exit to BASIC by simply using 'x' command.

AFAIR EPROM on external card needs to be interfaced with ROML/ROMH lines,
but /GAME and /EXROM cannot be connected to GND (like on C64), because C128
will jump into C64 mode instead. The rest is the same as for internal
function ROM except memory bank in C128 monitor (it is 8 then).

More about that can be found in documentation that comes with The Servant -
a very helpful tool for C128 that can be put on internal/external ROM or
executed from RAM

Sorry for the bad word-wrapping.

When I understand this right you can put an EPROM inside which covers
memory-range from 8000 to FFFF (32k) and inside this EPROM you put your
own stuff which starts on reset.

Great to see thread back on topic!

Empty U36 is often goes unused on a C128, a computer with excellent
potential for customization and lots of system resources.

I have several C64s but spend most of my "Commodore time" with either
Vic-20 or C128 projects.

The thing with the VIC-20 sounds interesting, regardless the small
display the computer I've also spent most of my commodore-time.

My last project on this machine has been a SID-cartridge with
RAM-expansion. Google this group will help. ;-)

Do you have published anything?

COMMODORE 128 is a great computer..really..the top for the 80's
and for me the Basic 8 graphic commands are affascinating and very
interesting...
