Hi everyone.

I have a Commodore PET and access to quite a bit of the old software.
However, I can't figure out how to convert the files to .tap files from .d64

I load the disk image. Then I load a game. It works fine.

I can save it as a .prg file but don't know how to get it into .tap format
so I can port it over to the PET.

If someone could help, I would REALLY appreciate it!!!!

All the best,

If your Commodore 64 has a Datasette there is a nice tool on
the later 1541/1571 test/demo disks called sd.copy.64. it allows
saving programs/files TO tape. only one caveat with this tool.
Don't stuff more than 20K per copy when selecting files! why? because
it will not copy more than the total 30K it can deal with.
what it does is loads up the files into the c64 and spits
them out to tape. Yet the program never thought of just dumping what
it can. load up more from the disk and dump more to the tape. The 30K
limit, its a guess, I ran into it when copying my text files from
disk to tape. will copy WHOLE files. it does not slice a file in half
in the copy.
Now as for the .d64 side. grab dsk2file from
ftp://ftp.funet.fi it makes .d64 or any other images to compatible
drives. ie: d71 for 1571 and .d81 for 1581. You will need a bigger
source drive for the image and of course a 1541 to make the disk. OR
if your pet has a 2031 then you can skip the tape transfer. just make
the .d64 to your 1541 and sneaker net it over to the pet. I am sure
the disk will work with a 4040 as well.

1) Start up xpet (from the VICE distribution).
2) Attach disk image and load file
3) From the menu, choose File/Attach Tape Image
4) In the file requester, enter a name for a (new) destination TAP file,
then press the 'Create Image' button in the 'New TAP Image' area.
5) Attach this TAP image, and SAVE your file to it (like you would do on a
real machine).
6) Detach TAP image, and you're don.

Use ptap to copy the TAP file to your real
machine. ptap is available from
http://arnold.c64.org/~minstrel/

Thank you very much Mr. Brenner! I figured most of this out during the day
after hours of fighting with the machine. Now I can't get ptap to work.
<laugh> If you could help there I would appreciate it and then I will never
bother you again. :-)

All the best,
